Tormented El Dogoes defence

Willows Valiant 11 El Doges 3

Not the game everyone was hoping for, El Doges scored in their first attack, Valiant quickly equalised, after that it was pretty much one way traffic.  El Doges huffed and puffed but their normal solid defence and fast counter attacks just was not happening.  Valiant quickly realised they had only their selves to beat; as a result they grew in confidence with goals following at regular intervals.

El Doges tweaked tactics. To their credit they chased the game to the end, but to no avail.

Valiant have to be credited for a great win, they was the far the better team on the night.  Their only scare was when keeper Ryan dislocated his finger.

Trawling through monthly records only after the last game of the season can I find Valiant top of the league.  El Doges conversely was always top until last game.  A run of thirteen without loss has enabled Dan Powers’s team to take the title by the tightest of margins.

Another 31 unbeaten and they will equal Magpies all time record.

Trawl 3 Shamrock 3

Shamrock will be the most pleased with the draw as they had a scratch team out, many being new to futsal.

Trawl is best with the ball to feet and players in space, too often in this game they was caught in possession.

Unfortunate feature of the game was player’s lack of technique in the tackle, tackling is an art just as the step over is to an attacker; players have to master taking the ball without physical body force.  Watch the best teams and players on YouTube to see what I am alluding to.

Cup Semi: Franklin College 4 All Blacks 1

All Blacks arrived with a team set out to do business, Franklin by contrast had the experienced Mathew Payne and Peter Sylvester supported by a youth cast.

For my money the leagues two players with the best feet in local futsal was on show, Yam (All Blacks) and Mathew Payne (Franklin).

Mathew Payne won the show down, creating or scoring his teams goals.

Yam blotted his copy book giving away a penalty and a miss cued pass that led directly to a goal.

Clee Wanders 6 GRS 6

The best game was kept to last, all the expectation had been focused on the league and cup battles, Clee vs. GRS was overlooked.

Clee contrived to lose after being ahead for most of the game, a regular consequence for Clee who struggle with teams that pressure them in the last ten minutes of games.

All twelve goals were worked for, some were minor futsal classics, and nothing was given away cheaply by either team.
