Grimsby Saxons 5 Grimsby Soccer Club 11

Saxons Achilles heel is defence; time after time the defensive pivot was missing.  If the defensive pivot plays the ball forward and continues with a forward run, another team member has to rotate into the position he left, otherwise the team formation is four attackers and a goal keeper.  Tactical suicide when the ball is lost.

GSC is great on the 2v1 counter attack; Saxon’s gave them ample opportunity to practice the expertise.

GSC two red cards, both easily avoidable.  Punishments in the post.

Scartholonia 5 Blaine FC 3

Scartholonia are a threat to all teams, fit, fast, tactically aware, any team playing them is in for a test.  League leaders Blaine were chasing the game from the early stages, unforced errors handing Scartholonia the ball too easily.  Late fight back came with two little time to rectify damage.

Blaine two red cards for comments made off the court to match official.  Punishment in the post.

Millfields 4 Ed Cottam 2

Millfields contained a strong ED Cottam side that had Dale Spalding in goal.  Dale was keeper for Magpies when they dominated the Monday Premier League some seasons past.  Magpies hold league record of 44 games undefeated. Dale went record number of games without conceding.  Back to this game, both teams played some great futsal, Millfields was yards sharper over the court which was added to tactical nous gave them the edge to win match.

Notes to teams

Huge wind spoiled all the games, credit to players that teams played as well as they did in tough conditions. The negative was two teams attitude towards the referees and their opposition.  It’s not needed, not clever and spoils the game for all concerned.  Some of the comments I picked up on was delivered by adults but was straight off a school play ground.  Not impressive, thankfully I am talking of a minority.

Players are reminded serious misdemeanours end up on the LFA’s desk; you pay for their running costs!
