 StreetSoccer, stunning fight back

 Tuesday league

Willows Valiant vs. Gy Wednesday All Stars

Cup

Franklin College 6 Trawl 2

 StreetSoccer 3 Clee Wanderers 2

Very disappointing, the team representing Wednesday All Stars (East Marsh Inter from Kent St.) failed to show.

Having confirmed game it is appalling bad manners, at worst not to send a text that team cant make it, saving opposition wasted time and travel.

A close game to half time, Trawl had twice taken the lead and then been pegged back. Seconds before the break they had a two on one break, but was beaten by the clock.

With the bare five players Trawl could not kep the same standard for the full forty minutes and Franklin went on to make them pay for their bare bench.  A price exacted on almost all teams without substitutes.

Poor discipline led to Scott Gittens (Trawl)  being sent off after disputing that Franklin had an extra player on the pitch when they scored fourth goal. Franklin made a fast skillful substitution, whether it was to fast is for the referee to decide, as a spectator I thought referee Gavin Sartain called it right.

Mathew Payne (Franklin College) will be sorely tested at the 2011 FA Futsal cup finals in July.  His National League team, Leeds, has drawn three times winners Helvecia, Chippenham captained by England captain Like Ballenger, and a new team seeded bottom of their group.  Tough, tough group.

The score tells you little of the drama of the game.  Both teams were locked in a 0-0 battle that tested every-one's nerves until midway through the second half.  One goal looked as though it would win game.  When Clee scored two great goals the game looked over.

StreetSoccer took immediate action using the keeper as a flyer in the opponents half, the flowed from that point, Clee could not get the adrenaline to kick-in for one last push.

Wednesday League

Scartholonia 3 AFC Trawlermen 7

Cup

GSC 4 Newton Heath 9

Weight Watchers 2 Fresh 7
Scartholonia suffered from not having a specialist goal keeper, a position, more than any other that can change results.

Grimsby Soccer Club started off well, the feeling that a shock might be on the cards was in the air.

Newton Heath dampened that optimism after ten minutes when two quick goals strangled the game in their favour.

GSC never gave up and a late rally made the score respectable.

The team names tell the story, the older Weight Watchers chasing the younger Fresh team.

some times you have to lower your goals, Fresh are in form (9 without loss), to lose by five was not a bad result for WW.

With three games left Fresh and Newton can both win League.

Fresh play Saxons, GSC & Newton Heath.

Newton Heath play Weight Watchers, GSC and Fresh.

Down to the wire as they say.
