Very disappointed that Newton Heath (also playing as Team Biffa) have walked away from playing any further matches. Team manager Danny Rodgers had, up to this week been a pleasure to work with, until that is I get a text (a phone call would have been more personal), to say that his players 'wasn't playing anymore.'
Leaving mid season is bad manners to me, it's unsporting to all the other teams left in the league. What character does 'walking away show?
Finishing the teams games would have showed a positive strong character and the manners they would have expected of me if the situation was reversed.
Newton Heath was the foundation of Manchester United, unfortunately the GFL gets the Newton Heath branch that can't oblige a few games extra effort.
What can be done? League rules sanctioned by the LFA allow for a £50 fine for none completion of matches and outstanding match fees. If fees are not paid then the matters moves to the LFA, who usually ban all the players from all LFA football until their share of the team debt is paid.
All Newton Heath players are suspended from playing in the league until the matter resolved.
NB:
I am pleased to add that after considering the teams decision Newton have made contact with me, accepted liabilities and asked if they can continue, but just as a Wednesday team. I am happy to accept this situation.
