A FIVE-a-side team from the Grimsby Road branch of McDonald's is to play at Wembley in the finals of the fast food chain's national competition.

The restaurant side is hoping to outshine Grimsby Town – their Blundell Park neighbours – by ending the season with silverware, and will travel to the capital next month.

The team, called BMPS Bruzers, won a regional section played in Norwich, and will go on to face 15 rivals in the national finals of the McDonald's Cup.

They saw off local rivals Meridian Point, Cleethorpes, with a flurry of goals – four in the last four minutes – to ovAercome a 2-0 deficit on their way to qualification.

Employees Paul Shaw, Scott Givens, Steve Spurrell, Rob Cowie, Joe Candurn and Scott Everdson are now targeting success at the home of English football.

Shaw, the team's player-manager and captain, said: "We trained hard and I think we deserved it.

"Everyone is excited and hasn't stopped talking about it."

The former Leeds United trialist added: "We're going there to win, not just to make up the numbers, and I think we can bring the trophy home."

Goalkeeper Jack Hostead, who like Shaw has worked at the restaurant for three years, stepped up to score the winning penalty in a 4-3 shoot-out victory against last season's regional champions in the quarter-final stages.

He said: "We beat the current champions so we think we've got a good chance.

"We still can't believe we have got this far.

"Friends and family will be coming down to support us.

"It will be amazing to play at the home of English football.

"I hope we can rise to the occasion and bring home the trophy."
