Willows Valiant 4 Franklin College 2

Top class futsal from first to last whistle. The Valiant team was stocked with established Grimsby football and futsal stars, Franklin was a mixture of experience and youth.

From the off it was obvious Franklin was going to be no pushover, right to the break they matched Valiant’s every move. 1-1 at half time.

Second period Valiant edged in front to 3-1, at which point they slowed the game, causing Franklin to chase the ball, rather than adopt a ‘we need another goal’ policy.  Valiant recognised and respected that Franklin were best kept at bay by not letting them have possession of the ball. Valiant moved to 4-1 before Franklin closed to 4-2.

Mathew Horner put in a man of the match performance for Franklin, he is a complete all round player, mentally sharp, fast over the ground, accomplished defensively and in attack, takes the niggley tackle, never argues, the Leagues most complete player?

Trawl FC 6 GRS 6

Gavin Broughton brought the defensive maestro Kirk Russell back into the GRS team after weeks out; he made a big difference, plugging gaps others don’t see.  For the referees much of the game seemed more like being a teacher on play ground duty than refereeing a senior level futsal game.  Petty arguments from start to finish.  In between the disagreements were no small amount of good futsal and some outstanding goals.  The best being a stunning long aerial pass to near the Trawl by-line, passed without it touching the floor by ‘Deano’ to Kirk Russell who dispatched into the top corner, 6-5 with a minute left.  The skill of that move was matched by a calamitous error by GRS, an unnecessary pass across their own goal to give Trawl a hard earned equaliser.

El Dogo’s 6 YMCA Futsal 1

Always a one way contest, El Dogo’s had futsal experience in every position, by contrast the younger YMCA squad is very much at the bottom end of a learning curve.   The score reflects El Doges superiority but not the effort YMCA put into the game, El Doges had to sweat to win.
