FC Grimsby 0 Manchester 10
Why the drubbing? Where to start?
Manchester was excellent, every opportunity and half chance was taken with clinical ease. Had they the better players? The score line says yes. Deeper anaysis tells me our English players was as good as their Manchester counterparts, it was the the oppositions players of foreign nationality that gave them such a cutting edge. Players that was technically excellent with an annoying speed of thought.
Add to this concoction a Brazilian manager training his team 3 nights a week and we was left with 'egg on our faces.'
Before the game he told me 'that in Brazil schools only play futsal, never 11v11.'
My immediate after game feeling was of despair that such a sold Grimsby group of players was beaten so comprehensively without them scoring a goal. Do I/we give up. Who fancies Sheffield next week? It will not be much easier then, Sheffield are level Manchester for top spot.
Eventually the message kicks in, giving up is for losers, I want to play like Manchester, I want to see a Grimsby born 'Brazilian.'
The Grimzilan is long term work in progress, I have a groups' of 5-10 year old training futsal, the more I can keep them off mini soccer and 11v11 the greater my chances of that star player.
Starting this Thursday onwards FC Grimsby will train futsal, venue and time to be confirmed. Being beaten 10 -0 has left a bad taste that needs to be removed.
Perfect preparation prevents a p... p... performance.
To add perspective to the score Grimsby had 2 players back after long term injury, futsal at this level does not give you time to pick up the pace of the game. Add to that 1 new face and life is made harder than it would otherwise have been. 2 goals conced within 4 minutes was a game killing start, credit to the players that they then defended to half time as well as any Grimsby performance I have seen; losing only 1 more goal. A late surge of goals caused the disatrouse score line.
