To that did not know Dave directly, you will have been associated with him indirectly.

Almost every local referee was tutored by Dave, or taught by a course leader tutored by Dave.

He had friends and respect to the highest levels in football.

Dave knowledge on the Rules and Laws of the game was unparalleled.  Every week, year after year he would write a detailed article on the subject for the Grimsby Telegraph.

To his last day he was emailing his valued opinion to me on a penalty shoot out rules decision I was calling on his knowledge and experience to solve.

Dave lived his refereeing to his last day.

Dear Colleagues,

"It is with sadness that I have to inform you that David Young passed away in the early hours of this morning. Having spoke to David only a few days ago he did inform me that his cancer had “come back with a vengeance”. Unfortunately the news this morning has come as a big shock.

David was fundamental to training & developing instructors for the FA and has been instrumental for many quality people to develop their instructing skills.

David was still a very young man at 62 and will be sadly missed.

I will let you know of further details once known."
For now until the AGM all RA correspondence will be collated by me.

Phil Joslin.
