Gunners Watch

Captain D. Powers & manager M.Rouse

After an exhausting season Gunners Watch became the first team to win the title since 2004; the date when Nicol Magpies started there domination.  Nicol Magpies had won Grimsby futsal leagues VII, VIII and IX.

Early season form was with Gunners as Magpies started out with 3 drawn games. Gunners form was consistent win win, win; until tragedy struck in the shape of knee ligament damage for star player Dale Jenkins. A major operation resulted from which Dale is still recovering.  Players with speed and skill are irreplaceable and results dipped in the second half of the season as a direct result of Dale’s injury.

It says a lot for the team that they battled on to win the title as their comfortable lead diminished point by point.

The title was not certain until the final whistle of the final game.  Grimsby Catalonia might have been Magpies in disguise as they made Gunners work for the title in that final game.  When the whistle blew Gunners had triumphed 3-2.  One slip one blip and 3-3 would have lost them the title, that’s how close the Monday night Premier League was.

The league was a credit to all the teams involved; league XI opens new challenges; Harvest FC, Wanderers, Opium FC has all joined the league with serious intentions of winning.  To retain the title will be a greater challenge than winning it; Magpies will admit that they had some easy games, those days are gone.

If you enjoy football and want to know more about the futsal fuss get down to Second Avenue on a Monday night and see for yourself.
