Ben Mortlock playing for Sheffield Futsal Club

FA National League - North game vs. Oldham

Many of you will know Ben either from his Grimsby Futsal League days with Magpies or more recently El Dogo's.

Ben studied sports science at Middlesbrough University during which time he was star player for Middlesbrough Futsal Club, a success that led to him being a regular member of the England Futsal team.

Having such continuous success at such a young age, makes one wander where, and what Ben will have achieved in 5 years time.

Just a thought, has Ben been employed because Mr Woods thinks he can improve the fitness of players or is Mr Woods accepted that his current youth development methods, no saleable players produced in 10 years, are not working?

(Grimsby Telegraph 14th May 2010.

'We.ve seen constantly over the last ten years where youth players who have been outstanding at Youth level have not made the next step up.' Neal Woods)

The Premier league is dominated by foreign footballers coached futsal, should Grimsby Town wake up to this fact and nurture its own futsal (football) stars.  Sports science studies suggest they should 'wake up and smell the coffee.'
