The second FA National Futsal League is due to commence February 11th. Grimsby has a team entered subject to confirmation of acceptance from the FA. The team has been entered as Grimsby YMCA, as the name implies the club will be centred through the YMCA. The management committee is drawn on their expertise with me as acting Chairman. The management committee’s job will be to explore the funding possibilities to take futsal into schools and introduce the game to people already at YMCA etc.
It is envisaged the footballing side of the club will develop with teams competing at different age and ability levels. The initial focus must be on the elite team that will be compete for the serious prize money that is on offer within the FA National Futsal League (North). The fact that the league commences February 11th means we have limited time to prepare.
Manager of the team is I, with Mathew Payne Assistant Manager. Daniel Hornigold is team captain. Still only 20 Danny has shown me consistently over past 4 years that he can compete with the best futsal players in the country, he also has a commitment to futsal over our traditional 11v11 game, which is very important. A massive responsibility is on Danny’s shoulders, captains lead by example!
I am confident we can improve on last season which was a massive
learning curve. If you want to offer your services to GYMCA these are
the contact details:
Futsal is the format
of Small-Sided Football that is recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA with
World and European Championships for club and National Teams. The name ‘Futsal’ combines the Spanish words
for ‘Hall’ – Sal and ‘Football’ – Futbol into Futsal. It is a five a-side game played with hockey –sized
goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce. As a small sided game, players are constantly placed in situations where
they must receive or play whilst under pressure or in a confined spaces and it
places considerable demand on technique, movement, tactical awareness and
fitness.
