GRS All Stars 5 Grimsby Soccer Club 8

GRS did not reach the heights of the team’s top class Tuesday League performance vs. Valiant. Kirk Russell’s defence qualities badly missed.  GSC tore them apart in the attacking phases of the game, 5-2 at half time.  GRS made big efforts to make a fight back but GSC was not going to let game slip.

GSC league top scorers – but down with worst defences!

AFC Trawlermen 2 Newton Heath 2

Terrific high paced game. Trawlermen again had lots of position but feature of recent games is the lack of ‘killer passes’ into the back post area; something they used to be very adept at.  Newton, in their new kit, was untidy in their general play, a spark was missing.  It could have been the Trawlermen defence, which when breached had a keeper in unbelievable form.

Best GK display ever at Second Avenue?

Grimsby Saxons’ 2 EDF Cottam 7

Saxon’s have lifted their game; the old pushover team is gone.  Better finishing and a strong EDF squad would have been taken to a very close finish.

One six pass and move Saxons’ goal was football at its very best.

Scartholonia 10 Crowland Crusaders 3

Tough opening games for Crowland.  Team is not included in league table as yet as I need to be sure they field team on regular basis, to date they have been player short on two games played.  That said they have two teams well organised in junior league.  Will give them couple more weeks to prove they can field team.  Enthusiasm is not a problem, organisation is.  One has to praise them when two players travelled by bus from Cleethorpes to Second Avenue to play an 8-30PM game.
