County Cup demolition of Ingomells

Futsal Panthers showed class as they repelled a spirited Elite team.  Panthers took an early 2-0 lead that was brought back to 2-1 and then for a period Elite pressed and an equaliser looked a possibility.  Elite almost always attacked with two players, which made it easier for the Panthers defence, a ‘third man ‘needs to support to put defenders under duress.

Players of both teams showed great technique and futsal intelligence, the game tested everyone on the court.

Late Panthers goals took the sting out of the game.

YMCA continues to improve, starting games is not a problem, it’s playing the second half as well as the first that’s the problem.  2-0 up at one stage, and it could have been more, a defence lapse or superb quick thinking and volley, depending on which team you are supporting, levelled the game to 2-2 with the last kick of the half.  I must concede your volley was exceptional Tom, well done.

The second half was just as tight, until YMCA got a 3 on 1 break on Little Devils goal, a misjudged pass and Devils was now 3 on 1 on the YMCA goal.  They did not mess up.  From this point YMCA chased an equaliser, but paid the price conceding further goals.

As YMCA coach I was delighted the way the players set up their defence, get the second half right and team will move up the table.

Every week I think the young Fusion team will drop points and weekly they prove me wrong.  They passed themselves to a 9-0 victory, no long ball play, clever pass and move futsal.  Stu Orr’s Lions Pride was off the pace, knew what they wanted to do, but was slow to carry it out, this gave impetus to Fusion.

FutsalTigers and GSC Dynamite played out a 4-3 thriller, Dynamite proving a real surprise package was undone conceding  a late goal. Peart 2, Green and Leyland scored for Tigers.  Tigers late winner keeps them in touch at the top, GSC have to be content with great eleven aside County Cup win on Sunday.

Best night’s futsal for some time.  Every team looked to play short constructive futsal, every game was well supported and special word of thanks to John Mawer, great refereeing and he knows every player by name.
