Score line yet again does not tell the full story, 7 goals difference does not reflect the Grimsby performance. No player had a bad game, the difference FCGY has to remedy is opposition teams are focused on what they want to achieve. Sheffield team is connected to local universities, players do not play Saturday games to be fresh and injury free for Sunday's. They train at least once weekly with their Brazilian coach; put simply they prepare better. Our players our on a level, as a team tactically we are playing catch up.
A detailed match report is not needed, FCGY scored for me the best goal of the game, the goals we conceded was not soft, they were well worked by a team that was one step ahead whenever an opportunity arose.
Grimsby Town's new fitness guru, Ben Mortlock, had a great game for Sheffield.
It was pleasing that the players was not despondent about the score, they know the work needed to compete with the best, they know they are capable of meeting that challenge. |
