Everglaze II 13 Immingham 4. Inter Fantastic, Somercotes tame Latics, Print E-mail

Everglaze II is a mix of old and new players, what is different are this team will challenge at the top end of the table.  Dale’s team played some great ‘futsal,’ 1 touch, 2 touches they mixed short and long to great effect looking dangerous whenever they had the ball.

Immingham started well and then faded, to many long balls and not enough creativity throughout team.  Richard players need to know 2 basic facts, if you have ball 3 attack 1 reads the situation and defends, lose the ball and everyone is a defender.  Players were on half way line defending corners?

North Somercotes Academy is early pace makers of Kent St Thursday League, with 2 wins and draw in first 3 games.

They had a strange game vs. Latics who never got into any stride or pattern.  Maybe because Somercotes never let them.  Somercotes quickly opened up a 3-0 lead which Latics clawed back to 3-2 at half time.  My thoughts were then that Latics would raise their game and push Somercotes back.  As it transpired the only Latics player to raise his game was the keeper who made a series of great saves.  One triple save showed as much commitment as his whole team showed on the night.  On the positive Latics never played well but still kept the final score close at 6-4.

Final criticisms:

Latics to many times ball kicked out of play when skill on ball could have kept in play.

Somercotes need to use length of pitch as well as width; there are times you have to move away from the ball to create space – not be drawn towards it like a magnet.

Inter played 40 minutes of quality futsal; every player new his job, every players responded to every situation asked of him.  Real quality performance reflected in the score Inter 13 Grimsby Jets 0.  To Jets credit they made a game of it, no one gave up.  A goal would have satisfied them on the night, the fact that they did not score was down the fact that Inter protect their keeper, and then when he was called on Steve showed why in any debate on the best Grimsby GK his name is mentioned.

Jets new players can be desponded by the score or thank Inter for a great lesson in how to play futsal.

ECGS 7 Kent St 13.  Sorry I missed this game.  ECGS has played 2 lost 2, which indicates to me the Thursday League has moved up a playing level.  The games I watched last night showed that the team that wins is going to have to play continually well, easy games will be sparse.
