Grimsby Saxons 5
Blaine 12
This was another one of those
games that the team with the specialist keeper won. Steve Goodwin stood in for Blaine’s Clasper
who is working away for a few weeks. Had
he played for Blaine I am sure the much improved Saxons would have nicked the
game. It was only a late rally after
Blaine realised Saxons was not a walkover that secured the win. For a long
period the score was nip and tuck, only late goals flattered Blaine.
Blaine won’t be
bothered what I write, they sit top, having won five out of five
AFC Trawlermen 2 GRS
4
GRS stepped up to the plate on
this one. Trawlermen took an early lead
soon equalised by GRS who then pushed on to lead 4-1 at the break.
The second period was a different
game, after a succession of games lost after the break, GRS woke up to the fact
that they did not need ‘to win the game twice.’
GRS defended patiently, attacked sensibly and although they conceded a
goal got the reward they deserved from a top class performance. Great game to watch, played straight after
the exhausting Cup Final, we got another great game and not the anticipated
anti climax.
Scartholonia 9
Grimsby Soccer Club 10
Missed this one unfortunately, it
had to be end to end! In the league both teams consistently attack better than they
defend, the result shouts out of all out attack.
