Futsal continues to grow and excite youngsters. Futsal is fast, fluid, featuring loads of goal mouth activity. 

The only negative is the awkward name ‘futsal.’ Corrupted from the South American name futebol de salão, which is Spanish /Portuguese for football in a small room or space.

Futsal is exciting a new generation of local youngsters and parents.

Youngsters are coming to the game because it offers so much ‘ball time’ than traditional eleven aside.  Players have no labelled positions; they must be both attackers and defenders. 

Parents are asking for their protégées to play because of their admiration for Barcelona (UEFA Champions) and the World Champions Spain.  Barcelona coach futsal through to age fourteen before introducing eleven vs. eleven football. The results cannot be ignored with three players from one Barcelona youth team being nominated for FIFA World Player of the Year 2010.

The game has had a local boost with Solar Girls and FC Grimsby boys under fourteen teams being crowned FA National Champions.  A huge achievement of which both teams can be justifiably proud.

Over ten years numerous parents and players have told me how futsal has improved their ability to play football; during that same period not one player or parent has offered a negative futsal comment.  Long may that continue?
