£300 in vouchers to league winners Valiant, BBS & Youngs' Seafoods'

Grimsby Futsal League parts with £300 in JOMA vouchers to BBS Couriers and Willows Valiant.

BBS & Youngs' Seafoods' have both won the Monday Premier league,  BBS the Wednesday League.

BBS have invested their voucher in a new kit from JOMA, modeled by Dan Powers.

Teams have the option of team trophies or the £100 voucher; to-date the voucher has been favorite.

When teams win a league, a star goes against that team name in the table.

GFL Year 5/6 League - three sit up and take notice results
Written by Kevin Bryant
Tuesday, 01 February 2011
GFL  West Marsh 11 GSC Juniors 2
East Coast 'A' 4 Discoveries 5
New Waltham 9 Discoveries Panthers 2
A friendly game as part of GSC Juniors introduction to futsal, after a solid performance against higher placed opposition it was a big shock to see them re-soundly beaten by West Marsh, meaning no discredit to West Marsh.

Major shock, East Coast 'A' went into game having lost only 3 games, Discoveries only won 3.

East Coast did not help their cause, conceding 3 penalties.

This maybe a major turn around for Discoveries , who have shown some real improvement over recent weeks.

New Waltham are a hit and miss team, this week we have a score that recognises the potential in the team.

GFL Thursday League - East Marsh showdown, game of night

 GFL  Pilgrims 7 Barca 3
East Marsh Inter 6 East Marsh 7  Grimsby Soccer Club 19 Toll Bar 2
 Mid table battle:

Barca hitting bad patch, two weeks ago this would have been a bookies odds on result.  East Mash Inter may have lost this game, but taking their more experienced opposition to the wire will have given them most satisfaction.
Toll Bar under-perform, closer result against table toppers Everglaze last week.  Big step on from junior football.
Take out Everglaze and East Marsh and you have left a fascinating battle for third place.

Wednesday League - OWKN lose but make strong start
Written by Kevin Bryant
Thursday, 27 January 2011
GFL
Gy Saxons 2 Yara 7
 AFC Trawl 4 OWKN 3
 Fresh 7 Blaine 2
GRS 3 BBS Couriers 9

First win for Yara and new manager Alex Peacock.

Saxons prop up the table again, but with a vastly improving goal difference.

OWKN was playing their first game of futsal on a full size court, a vastly different game to the smaller Novartis pitch. Trawl or a good outside bet to win league, they move the ball about quickly and use the full court. At 3-1 they looked to be running away with the game, OWKN stayed with them, and clawed back to 4-3. If they are to win title Trawl need to finish games like this off, not allow them back into the game.

Highlight of the game John Mawer (OWKN keeper) creating second team goal from a corner for his team started on opposite side of the court.

Blaine got off to a great start and went 2-1 in-front.  At this stage they looked capable of causing a shock result, and had an incredible Blaine back flick go in then the whole game might have changed.

It was not to be, as so often happens once  the result changes to 3-2 Fresh and opposition start chasing game, it can cost more goals than it reaps.

Craig Norman big difference between teams.

BBS fielded probably the strongest team I have seen in Wednesday League, the majority of the players have played for Grimsby in the FA National League.

GRS matched them in outfield but unfortunately Gav' Broughton had a game to forget in goal.

Star performance John Highton GRS.

GFL Tuesday - All Stars take Valiant close - Clee register great win
Written by Kevin Bryant

GFL Willows Valiant 6 All Stars 3
Trawl 5 All Blacks 9
 Clee Wanderers 12 StreetSoccer 5
 Franklin College vs. Madrid

 Moral victory for All Stars.

With previous games being lost by -10 goal difference this will be a massive boost to teams confidence.

I'm sticking my neck out and declaring now that All Blacks will win the league.  Trawl was one of those games to gauge the teams capabilities and they delivered.

Plenty of time for me to be proved wrong.

Clee Wanderers upset the form book with a decicive margin against StreetSoccer who have 'up to now' always 'had the legs' over Clee. The fact that StreetSoccer palyed full game with 4 players might explain Clee's apparent rise in fitness levels.

My apologies to all concerned.  It was not Madrid's fault they did not turn up, it was an error on my part.

I have changed Madrid team name to GRS.

School Year 8/9 League
Written by Kevin Bryant

GFL
Tigers 8 Humberston 2
Discoveries Titans 6 Toll Bar 5  GSC 4 Novartis 2 NB:

Three matches and if I was a betting man , all three results called wrong.

Really fancied Humberstone to beat or take Tigers close, on the day the greater futsal experience of Steve Norburn's team was to much.

Toll Bar are overage and as a consequence results will not count against Championship, credit to Toll Bar for joining group, they just want to play futsal.

Titans brilliantly took the challenge on and just like David slew Goliath.

Delighted to have GSC back in the league, and a real boost for Chris Francis that his team took three points of Novartis.
If you are school year 8/9 get the message out to your friends that their is a league that they can play in, more than that a league that leads to playing in FA National Finals.

GFL Little Devils 7 GSC Juniors 2
Discoveries 1 Elite 9
 Discoveries 2 GSC Panthers 12  East Coast A 3 GSC Tigers 7

Played as a friendly, GSC Juniors tasted their first game of futsal against the highly experienced Little Devils. That the Juniors team kept the score down to a -5 was a credit to Shaun Thompson and his players.  Team will be a great asset to new league when it re commences.

Score in neither game reflects the part Discoveries played in games; Discoveries for some strange reason I cannot fathom struggle to tum mid field excellance into goals.  A 6 pointer for both teams, made more important as games left to win title are running out, big win for Chris Francis Tigers to maintain their table topping position.

 Pilgrims 9 East Marsh 10
Barca 9 Grimsby Soccer Club 5
Toll Bar 1 Everglaze 13
Everglaze 8 East Marsh Inter 5
Pilgrims moving even closer to taking big scalps.  GK Steve Goodwin managed to  find opposite number Charlie Jillings off his line to chip the ball into net.  To make matters worse he did it twice.
Barca must have lost way in this game, when I arrived at half time Barca had control, GSC had not scored. GSC did not dominate second half but they did take their chances and probably won second period.  Toll Bar stepped into the league against top opposition in Everglaze.  Before the game Toll Bar, all 16 year olds, asked me how I thought they may get on.  Lose by 10 and you will have done very well.  In fact they played an exceptional first game against an Everglaze team that played some of the best futsal I have seen at Kent St.  Toll Bar are bright lads that will lose some against experienced older opposition, but the lessons learnt will be put to good use against teams their own age.  Everglaze stepped into play East Marsh Inter, another young team that deserve praise for holding Everglaze to a 3 goal difference.

Wednesday League - Newton & Blaine score 10
Written by Kevin Bryant
Thursday, 20 January 2011
GFL Newton Heath 10 Scartholonia 0
 AFC Trawl 6 Yarra 4
 GY Saxons 4 Blaine 10
News

Scartholnia took game at short notice, for which I thank them, but will now be thinking why did we bother.

Newton have won the Wednesday league twice, they are setting their stall out to make that 3.

New Yarra manager, Alex Peacock would have been hoping for a better start. That said Trawl are a hard nut to crack and they took them close.
Blaine should photo the table now, three points took them second bottom to third top!
Well known referee Dan Mawer team will start next week.
