Want to play futsal at Wembley? |

Sunday, 25 March 2007 |
The Grimsby Futsal League is about to start its 11th league season. The league has limited spaces for new senior teams (age 16 and above).
From 4 teams meeting to play the game on Grimsbys Grange Estate the league has grown to playing Monday Wednesday at the Second Avenue Resource Centre and Tuesday nights at Kent St Resource Centre.
Over 40 teams are currently playing in the Grimsby Futsal Cup, the winners qualifying to play futsal in France sponsored by Sports Liesure Travel Ltd.
The FA has announced a new national 5 aside tournament, regional tournaments will lead to the last 32 teams playing futsal on the hallowed Wembley surface, teams will change in the facilities used by England; and to cap it all the winning trophy will be presented from the royal box! The grounds mans budget is such that the tournament will play whatever the conditions.
Annually our best teams play a FA Umbro Futsal Cup (Grimsby Qualifying Group), the 2007 winners (Nicol Magpies) will be playing at the prestigious Cup Finals at Sheffield June 6th-8th. This years event is expanding out of the English Institute of Sport into other indoor facilities in Sheffield to incorporate junior and senior ladies competitions. The 2007 winners qualify to play in the 2008 UEFA Futsal Cup.
These FA events are superbly organized and have more time and expense put into them any small league or group could ever envisage. Last years Futsal Cup was presented by Sir Trevor Brooking, the FA Cup was on display, Radio Sheffield did the presentation both at the venue and with live radio interviews.
Futsal equals opportunity, opportunity to play for England at futsal, referee futsal internationally, to play futsal at Wembley or your futsal team qualifies for the UEFA Cup.

Grimsby Futsal Cup. Qualifying Group
ACD conceded their match against Gunners Watch as the team could not be guaranteed due to work call outs. Given that since day one of the Grimsby Futsal League ACD have put themselves out to make fixtures no fine will be imposed on the team.
Heta moved up a gear to beat Magpies II. Magpies pressed high up the pitch which gave the young Heta legs space to travel into on the break. Booth keepers impressed. 7-4
Expressions and FC Coventry are old foes, a bookies draw if ever there was one. Expressions went home the happier. 5-3
Grimsby Bears, winners Hull 2007 Open, are back in tournament mode. CFKA gave it a real go, but just not enough. 6-2
Rose & Crown & Hemswell trade goals, with Hemswell winning out. 11-5
Futsal Warriors kept up recent improvements testing newcomers SilverStar Tradesmen. 8-5
Monday Premier League
Just to show the standard of the league 4 goals was sufficient for College 2001 and Grimsby Catalonia to record wins over Eagles and Fulstow Rovers. 4-3 and 4-2 respectively.
Second Avenue Tuesday Division II
Only 1 game as league X closes. League XI with some new faces will start concurrently.
The one game saw Wanderers show yet again that like Harvest they have to much in hand to find division II a serious test. Thorpe Park was the fall guys, saved from a cricket score by some superb keeping. 11-1
Watch this space when booth teams join the Premier League.
Wednesday Division III
Kyle Braithwaites team KBFC must be getting fed as yet again the get close to a result, just to fail. To take Heta to 4-3 was a creditable result.
Kent Street League
Grimsby Futsal beat Aspels 8-6 in a mid table encounter, Gy Futsal winning third match in last 4.
Kent St did not know what losing was, with 2 on the bounce they do now. Opponents Nelson sits in second place with 1 loss in 8. 7-4
Football Wizards 8 Evergalze 5 is a moral win for Everglaze as last league they would not have got close.
Friendly Matches
Futsal is a very fast, highly competitive game of five aside. Research has shown futsal benefits 11v11 football more than traditional coaching methods. Grimsby Futsal League Friday, March 16, 2007
Grimsby Futsal Cup Qualifying Group.
Expressions see of Aspels 7-3. FC Coventry 11 Everglaze 0. Two Kent St. teams did not fare well on larger Second Ave. pitch. Interesting to see how Second Ave teams fare on smaller pitch? Os 4 Gy Futsal 3. A memorable game for all the wrong reasons; must do better lads.
Heat 3 Magpies II 3. Referees should have moved onto penalty shoot out. There are no replays in Cup. For a penalty shoot out each team nominates 5 players, it could be 3 on the pitch and 2 subs, the procedure is then; 5 penalties each, if no winner, same order and sudden death.
Monday Premier League
Youngs have the players but have they the team discipline to reach the next level? Dale Mason and Danny Power were the difference in a closely contested match. Gunners Watch increase lead at top to 5 points with a game in hand. 7-4
2nd placed College 2001 and bottom placed Eagles share points. 5-5
Grimsby Catalonia drop to 3rd with 2nd defeat in 3 weeks. Sam Hallet starring as Fulstow Rovers takes the points 6-3.
Second Avenue Tuesday Division II
Wanders look like the new Harvest scoring 32 in 2 games. ACD, second in the league, have been heavily beaten by booth teams, which is why booth teams will be welcomed into the Premier Division. 13-1
Rose & Crown played their best futsal for some time, Baptist have lost that winning feeling. 5 losses on the bounce. 4-1
Wednesday Division III
Kyle Braithwaites team KBFC are moving towards a first win. Daz Clark are a fair test for any team, in fact they have only lost once in last 6 matches. 6-4
Results have confirmed Youngs Seafoods as champions.
Kent Street League
What a night, Littlecoates go top (7 without loss).
Nelson short of a specialist keeper opened up by newcomers Silver Star Tradesmen, who have a hint of Harvest FC about them. 12-4
Football Wizards lose on rare occasions, and only to the better teams, tonight was such a night as Littlecoates hit them on the break. 12-4
Bottom placed Futsal Warriors did not beat Humberthem, but gave then a real scare. Watch this space; Warriors may have realized how to play futsal. 11-8
The big one for last. FC Snoop 9 Kent St 3, and did they deserved it. Kent St regular keeper was unavailable, Manchester United trials, you will have to ask him to explain. FC Snoop had a keeper that could catch sea gulls on Cleethorpes prom. They also had Liam Robinson, the first player I have seen have Ryan Smith in his pocket. Great team performance, no team will walk away unscathed in such a competitive league.

Another great turn out to play futsal for free. If you have a school age team (years 10 -11) then just get down and play. Play starts 4.30.
Its an adult free zone, no coaching, and no does this do that from a team manager that could not lace a pair of boots. Its your space, your team, your tactics; win lose or draw you are responsible. You will learn from your mistakes.
The best player the UK ever produced, George Best, learnt in the streets, a tennis ball at his feet. England had no courses for coaches when England won the World Cup in 66.
Teams that dominate wining the World Cup are the countries that play the most futsal; Brazil, Italy, Argentina.
Futsal makes you a better player to play football. Its official, a German study has confirmed what common sense was telling us.
3 tournaments and 3 teams on the winners list: Joga Benito, McKids, PK (Whitgift).

Sam Tatari double sinks FC Barca (Leeds) |

Sam Tatari Double Sinks Leeds Barca
FC Grimsby put together a magnificent team performance to take 3 points of FC Barca (Leeds). Score 5-1
Which ever 4 out field players Grimsby fielded they were rock solid in defense. Futsal in the Futsal Premier League is played 20 minutes each way, but with the clock stopping every time the ball leaves the court. Meaning 30 minutes real time play. The match card records that the Grimsby team conceded only 9 fouls throughout the game; impressive as the team plan was to sit deep and wait for counter attacking opportunities.
The game plan needed double patience as Leeds scored the opening goal through Kevin Barr. One slip and Gy paid the full price.
Robert Cass scored a deserved equalizer to take Grimsby to the break level. Gy shaded the half, keeping the Leeds keeping more occupied than Dean Gladwell in the GY goal.
Almost straight from the second half kick off Sean Gladwell scored a scorcher from distance; a real bonus, because in truth it would not be an area Grimsby would have been looking to shoot from, the odds favoring the keeper to highly.
The half time team talk was to keep the ball, bore the opposition if necessary, and then when their concentration breaks, or they leave a gap, and explode into action with either Danny Hornigold or Sam Tatari using their pace off the mark and the ability to win 1 v 1 situations.
The plan worked perfectly, Leeds had to push on, and Leeds needed to score Grimsby new another goal was in the game from them. It came through a fine Sam Tatari solo, followed by a Sam goal from the 10 meter free shot mark. 4-1 and coasting, a rare treat, but one that has been on the cards for some time.
The 5th was a great Daniel Hornigold break, 1v1 with the keeper from the half way line it could so easily have gone wrong with some much thinking time. you just new he would dribble the keeper, and blast it home; cool as a cue cumber he set the keeper and rolled it under him. 5-1.
Such a quality team performance without Andrew Appleyard and James Archer augers well for the future.
Grimsby star player Sam Tatari was a class act, no one watching would have recognized Leeds had a multi capped England futsal player (S. Harrison) in their squad.
Team: D.Gladwell, S Gladwell, D Hornigold, S. Tatari, K.Russell, S.Harris, S. Cass, J. Makinson-Sanders

Futsal Posatives................... |

Saturday, 03 March 2007 |
4 weeks ago I started coaching futsal to 13-15 year olds at Kent Street Resource Centre. Of the initial 6 players 2 had older brothers playing futsal that had inspired them to want part of the action.
Before the end of the session another group of local lads had asked to join in. I ended with double the number I sated with!
Week 2 came and more players arrived who had already decided they wanted to be teams. The stragglers became team 3 for the night.
Week 3. I arrived and thought I had problems. Kids were every where; how do I get this lot of the pitch? What I hadnt realized was they were all down to play futsal. Mighty Mariners, Joga Benito, Kent St, Gy Rebels, Real McKid's (what a name?). Everyone played everyone else, not a bad tackle in site. Talent and skill in abundance, street football at its best (futsal is street football with rules). Everyone had taken to futsal like ducks to water, decisions are accepted in the spirit they are made.
Week 4. Mighty Mariners spawn a B team, and teams travel from West Marsh estate and Hereford school to play.
Not a player or team lost in 4 weeks. From 6 players to 8 teams!!
An abundance of football talent.
Not an adult in sight (they dont see me as an adult because they know I want to keep adults out of their space).
Players from the senior Kent Street Futsal Team referee matches, we have no losers, and everyone starts with a clean sheet next week.
There is work do; do the teams create a league, what do they want out of futsal, what are they going to do to create that dream?
Watch this space?

Grimsby Futsal League Disgrace |

Thursday, 01 March 2007 |
A 3-3 draw with Gunners Watch took Nicol Magpies to a remarkable 38 without loss. All their matches were played in the Monday Premier League unlike College 2001 who had the majority of their 37 game run in division II.
The result of the game was less important than the manner in which the game was played.
When I arrived at Second Avenue I could hear, before I had seen a player, foul mouthed comments aimed at the referee coming from the pitch. These comments were backed by supporters that would not normally be at the Resource Centre. The atmosphere was intimidating.
Referee Brian Noble was outstanding in dealing with all the decisions he was asked to make. Three Gunners Watch players and one Magpies players was sent off. Three of which were for double yellow cards.
D. Hornigold (Magpies), a futsal league referee, was dismissed for a second yellow card. If the LFA suspend DH he will be doubly punished as a playing ban is also a refereeing ban.
I was told by a Gunners player in front of his friends that I ran a shit league. Very plesant given the time I put in costs me money.
Being insulted by players or spectators will not keep referees in the game.
The Grimsby Futsal League is not the place for you and your team if you have no respect for rules or the opposition.

CFKA excel, beating their best expectations at first tournament. They qualified from their group to loose out to Team Birmingham in the quarter finals 3-2. Teams Birmingham has a large squad to select from and have made the semi finals of the 2006 FA National Finals, as well as finishing third in the national Futsal Premier League.

Kent St can feel aggrieved that they were the only quarter finalists that had to play immediately after finishing a group match. This told on them as they had no physical reserves to call as they lost out to eventual finalist York University.
Ryan Smith deservedly took the top goal scorer award (12 goals) after some dynamic finishing.

Grimsby Catalonia would be the first to admit they under performed in a tough group, failing to make the final stages. A surprise as they would have been most peoples bet to do best from the Grimsby entrants.
Teesside University took won the tournament, Grimsby player Ben Mortlock their star player.

Grimsby Futsal League Thursday, February 01, 2007Second Avenue
Monday Premier League
Gunners Watch, with Cain Winfarriah and Danny Rowe starring, beat Eagles to make it 5 wins on the bounce and open up a 4 point lead over Magpies. 11-5
Mark Huntley led Magpies to comfortable win over old foes Fulstow Rovers. Magpies with 8 conceded in 5 games have best defense in league. 7-2
All Blacks condemn Youngs seafoods to bottom place. Sam Tatari and Luay Gharib stand out. Has to be a good league with Youngs bottom. 5-2
Second Avenue Tuesday Division II Second Avenue
Piemonte struggled to make a team, Harvest are tough with your best squad, hence miss match. Credit to Piemonte that they rallied at half time when lesser teams would have folded. 12-3
StreetSoccer pulled back from 1-3 to level 3-3, unfortunately Magpies rallied again to 5-4 thus ending StreetSoccers 5 without loss run.
Grimsby Baptist just cant get back on track (6L in 8 matches), Thorpe doing the damage this week in a game that had some great play. 10-4
Jamie Stratton takes plaudits as ACD prove too good for hard working Rose & Crown.
CFKA will soon be changing name to game of the night. 7-7 all with Auditorium they take advantage of late mistakes to win 9-7.
Wednesday Division III
Littlefields always had too much for Expressions. 7-2
KBFC loose points, sorry lads. ACD stand in and give FC Coventry a serious work out for their match fee. 8-3
Hemswell vs. Heta had close game written all over it, and so it turned out to be. Hemswell nicking it 5-3
Kirk Russell (Second Avenue) scores the sort of goal that deserves to win a match; unfortunately Daz Clark team had not read the script. 7-4
Kent Street League
Big 3 record cricket scores, at some point the league will have to move to two division league.
Nelson scored 13-0 against Astle's, Kent St (struggling for a team mid afternoon) left Warriors scarred 26-1, Football Wizards did their bit recording 13 without reply vs. Everglaze.
Os are erratic, but get everyone there they can do the business as Humbertherm disappointed to find out. 8-6
5 teams at the bottom have 6 points. Grimsby Futsal gets 3 of theirs with a 6-4 win over AFC Snoop who already had their 6.

Grimsby Futsal League Thursday, February 01, 2007Second Avenue
Monday Premier League
An indication of the standard of the top division is the bottom team. Premier Falcons would beat most teams at 5 aside. Eagles, friends at the bottom, took the points with nothing to spare. 7-6
Grimsby Catalonia, did the impossible, they kept College 2001 to nil goals! 5-0
Fulstow v Magpies was cancelled due to a clerical error.
Second Avenue Tuesday Division II Second Avenue
Harvest need one win to take title. Second place ACD could not match slick Harvest FC. Harvest will move into Premier League. 9-2
Piemonte just too good for battling Thorpe Park. 6-2
CFKA keep up pressure beating Grimsby Baptist Church, team is on their worst ever run, excellent game. 6-3
Wednesday Division III
KBFC, including 2 new players, had Expressions on the run for long periods, in fact their first points beckoned until Expressions dug deep late in the game. 8-6
Heta had their game won at half time, by the close FC Coventry had rallied to lose by the odd goal in 13.
Kent Street League
Evergalze win basement battle with fellow strugglers Futsal Warriors. 6-3
AFC Snoop played some good stuff, and had just too much for the Os. 7-3
League I top two teams met for the first time in League II. Game a great advert for Grimsby Futsal. Scored reflected brilliance of Kent St but not the part Football Wizards played in the game. 12-2.
Littlefields are the surprise futsal newcomers, taking to the game like ducks to water. Fellow newcomers Aspels could not get close. 14-2
Friendly Matches Ever improving StreetSoccer stood up to the test of playing Premier League opposition, narrowly loosing out to Grimsby All Blacks by odd goal in 5.

Grimsby Futsal League Thursday, February 01, 2007Second Avenue
Monday Premier League
Gunners still 100%. Grimsby All Blacks gave it their best shot. The greater futsal experience showed. 8-5
Youngs get no reward for great display. Craig Norman their man of the match almost every week. Lee Cook awesome for College. 8-5
Grimsby Catalonia v Magpies was a first chance to see Goodhand v Hornigold. Danny Hornigold rose to the occasion and shackled the leagues top marksman. Magpies win had 3 key ingredients, defense, defense, and more defense.
Second Avenue Tuesday Division II Second Avenue
Score does not tell full story, Harvest all over Thorpe Park, should of made it more
.8-3 Piemonte always on back foot but managed to get 6 goals ACD played well but not at there best. 10-6 Piemonte tired after their first match; with only 5 men the struggled manfully keep the score low. StreetSoccer win again in a another thriller for CFKA, do they play normal matches? StreetSoccer kept going and came from 7-5 to win 8-7. 4 on the bounce for StreetSoccer.
Rose & Crown played out another close game; unfortunately they were on the wrong side of 5 goals against Magpies II who are putting a run together. 3-2
Wednesday Division III
FC Coventry still cant halt slide. Similar players when Pizza Paradise had a 18 match unbeaten run! Expressions take advantage. 6-1
Heta hitting form, KBFC have no answers. More games you play the better the futsal understanding. As the score outlines 13-3
Daz Clarke and Hemswell share 10. 5-5
Kent Street League
