Junior teams please read the following article and contact me if you want your team or know of teams that might want to be entered.

The winners of the Novartis u/11 League will be automatically nominated for the U/12 category as they have just completed a 20 game season.

As you will read the under 12 group can accept two LFA nominations, one from a club and the second from a school.

GFL - Tuesday - Blaine deliver Courier's a bomb shell
Written by Kevin Bryant
Thursday, 03 March 2011
GFL   Gy Saxons 2 Scartholonia 12 BBS Couriers 3 Blaine 4   OKHN 2 Fresh 7 GRS 1 AFC Trawlermen 4

Scartholonia moving into mid table territory, just one loss in last four games.

Game of the night, I arrived late at venue and could feel the intensity of the game immediately.

Blaine led 3-2 at this point, with five minutes left on the clock. BBS equalised and then with the clock closing down Blaine snatched game 4-3.

Is a new order of young players taking over futsal dominance? Valiant crashed last night, this BBS team included Danny North and FA National League leading scorer Mathew Payne and was beaten.

Fresh never stretched. Dan Mawer's OKHN are playing a mix of five a-side and futsal, only games under the belt will take them to the next stage.

They have the players, but lack experience.

GRS are on the brink of being a top team.  1-1 at half time and the game could have gone either way.

Second half started with GRS losing key player 'Jonjo' through injury.

Disaster then fell when after three stunning GRS passes led to a shot and save, the subsequent corner fell short of its intended recipient and they was 2-1 down.

From then GRS hung on, brilliantly as the sore shows, as this experienced Trawlerman team could have crushed them.

Little Devils and Elite take title to last game
Written by Kevin Bryant
Wednesday, 02 March 2011
 GFL Discoveries 3 Elite 6
Discoveries 1 Liitle Devils 6 EC Lions A 1 EC Lions B 0
GSC Colts 7 Ameshi 5

Elite have the title 'to lose.' Little Devils are breathing down their necks.

Much improved Discoveries have to be commended to holding both teams to tight results.

Game of the evening.

Both teams tested each other to the limit.

The fact that there was only one goal was down to brilliant defence and keeping, not to shot shy teams unable to hit the target.

Newcomers GSC Colts and Ameshi fought out a close game, Colts extra couple of futsal friendly games may have been the difference.

For the statisticians Little Devils have conceded least goals, Elite have the best goal difference, East Coast Lions A currently have scored most goals, and GSC Tigers have remarkably played in five drawn games, a high number when in twenty games they have scored 113; conceded 44 and have a gaol difference of +69.  Those draws look to have cost Tigers the Championship.

Why are Brazil so good
Written by Coutesy Steve Wright www.footy4kids.com
Tuesday, 01 March 2011
j0434001brazil_ball_small.jpg According to ex-Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, no one is quite sure why so many wonderful players and great teams come from his beautiful country: "Sociologists and psychologists have tried to explain, but nobody can find one reason," he says. "The national football team is the symbol of national identity, the only time the nation gets together."Journalist Lito Cavalcanti suggests that the answer lies in the grinding poverty that afflicts so many young people in Brazil:"Many of Brazil's greatest footballers grew up in favelas – the shanty towns in its sprawling cities. Here, life is hard and... there is no effective schooling. Drug dealers control their lives. Sport is the only way out and in Brazil, football is the only sport people care about.

Referees Notebook
Written by Dave Young
Monday, 28 February 2011

 GFL

The following article is the text of a forthcoming Referees Column for the Grimsby Telegraph.

Author Dave Young has written the column for many years, a brilliant read if you have missed it, always current, and because Dave is a highly qualified referee/assessor, always accurate.  Don't miss reading it.

This week we take a look at an aspect of the game that has really taken off across the world in the last few years but an aspect that never seems to get the recognition it deserves. In that respect I’m as guilty as anybody but with Grimsby having in Gavin Sartain it’s first FIFA Official we should not only be congratulating him on such a massive achievement but we should also mention Kevin Bryant who has been at the forefront of the game at a local and national level.

I asked Gavin to give some background on futsal as  another avenue for qualified Referees to take and one which has opened so many doors for one of our most accomplished Referees.

Grimsby League futsal players off to Wembley?
Written by Kevin Bryant
Sunday, 27 February 2011
 GFL

Mark Huntly, captain of of the GFL's most successful team Magpies, they played a record sequence of 44 games without defeat, has manged through a decorator contact to get an entry into the Johnston Paints five aside tournament.

There are two qualifying rounds, the North in Manchester next Sunday & the South in Milton Keynes.  Both qualifying rounds allow for a 60 team entry.

The two winning teams will play the final at the Johnstone Paints Cup Final at Wembley.

Can they do it?  Mark has trawled the GFL for all our best futsal players, some of which have experienced winning big tournaments in the past, so they know what needs to be done.

I have fully enjoyed the league , although soon it will be the end of it. My team and I are so close to winning the league for a third time.

Our team has worked hard at training futsal and playing futsal in the league.

I am very confident we can win the league from all the futsal we have had.

As we are good at futsal we would recommend it to other teams to have a go.

The best bits of futsal, are having a game and having some fun.

Question to James - what do you like most about futsal?

Reply - quick, skillful and I get quite a lot of touches on the ball.

What do you least like about futsal? - kick-ins

 Updated Futsal League Laws.

All rules as per FIFA.

Future junior leagues will not be decided by points only.

Both of the above have been sanctioned by The Lincolnshire Football Association.  Signed 3rd February 2011

Please read and understand the obligations of the Management Rules.

Is it important to have Management Rules and be affiliated to the LFA?

Disadvantages it costs money and means paperwork for GFL.

Advantages qualified referees can officiate in GFL - they cannot referee in non affiliated leagues.

Teams have rules sanctioned by an independent body - LFA

GFL teams are invited into FA Futsal Cup.

GFL players and referees have opportunity to progress to higher levels within FA system.
