 El Dogoes 7 StreetSoccer 6
Willows Valiant 5 Shamrock 2

Clee Wanderers 4 Wednesday All Stars 1
Score does not tell full story, StreetSoccer was always behind chasing game.

Both teams badly open to counter attack, something that will cost El Dogoes against high calibre opposition at next weeks FA Futsal Cup qualifier.

With the ball both teams caused each other problems, without the ball play was not to same standard.

Steve Goodwin scored his party piece goal, a save dispatched into his opposite numbers net.  Dan Taylor was strangely subdued for StreetSoccer whilst 'Burger' controlled game for El Dogoes.

Eleven fouls after only fifteen minutes tells the story of a tetchy opening. A Valiant free shot on goal missed (16 mins for a 6th foul by Shamrock) . Shamrock had new signings but they never mastered futsal is not five aside.  Valiant had a team of experienced futsal players and that was the big difference.  Valiant 'Skoda' abetted by Dale Mason was the three goal difference.

clee_wanderers.jpg  Clee faces told an end of game story, the older team had to dig deep for this win.  The younger Scartholonia dragged them all over the court, Clee just had the experience to contain them and take goals as and when an opportunity arose.

Scartholonia had equalised one all with a stunning back post pass and finish, to be bettered by the best move of the night, a reverse pass from Jenkins to setting up Phil Wakefield for a top corner volley, that gave the pass the finish it deserved.

 All Cup games:

StreetSoccer 6 GRS All Stars 5.

AFC Trawlermen 3 Grimsby Soccer Club 5 Barca 4 Blaine 4 ( Blaine won 3-1 on penalties)
Newton Heath 10 OWKN 0
Game was nip and tuck the full forty minutes.  GRS had the larger squad but could not use it to full advantage.  At 5-3 and ten to go StreetSoccer looked assured a win.  GRS dug in at this point and levelled to 5-5 with one minute left.  No team deserved to lose, but being cup, if it wasn't a goal it was penalties to decide.

Scott Harris who had edged Jon Highton for man of the match created that one big chance, Adam Bly buried it.  Game over.

Great advert for futsal.
GSC getting a roll of results since they have moved off the smaller Kent Street pitch.

A below strength Trawl took an early lead that GSC erased with two breakaway goals before half time.

after the break GSC always controlled the game.

Blaine had chances to 'put game to bed' but squandered chances, this nearly came back to haunt them, with a two goal lead and five minutes to go Blaine found themselves 4-4 and a penalty lottery.

kieron_blaine_2011.jpgFortunately they was good at penalties and went through 3-1.

With a bare five players Weight Watchers have to be commended for an excellent all-round performance.  Dale P', believed to be in a Holten Clay pub could have been the difference for his team.

Newton are on track for third Wednesday Championship, teams need to be on their game to play them.

Politely OWKN never turned up.

OWKN have fallen away as cricket season has overlapped futsal season.

A FIVE-a-side team from the Grimsby Road branch of McDonald's is to play at Wembley in the finals of the fast food chain's national competition.

The restaurant side is hoping to outshine Grimsby Town – their Blundell Park neighbours – by ending the season with silverware, and will travel to the capital next month.

The team, called BMPS Bruzers, won a regional section played in Norwich, and will go on to face 15 rivals in the national finals of the McDonald's Cup.

They saw off local rivals Meridian Point, Cleethorpes, with a flurry of goals – four in the last four minutes – to ovAercome a 2-0 deficit on their way to qualification.

Employees Paul Shaw, Scott Givens, Steve Spurrell, Rob Cowie, Joe Candurn and Scott Everdson are now targeting success at the home of English football.

Shaw, the team's player-manager and captain, said: "We trained hard and I think we deserved it.

"Everyone is excited and hasn't stopped talking about it."

The former Leeds United trialist added: "We're going there to win, not just to make up the numbers, and I think we can bring the trophy home."

Goalkeeper Jack Hostead, who like Shaw has worked at the restaurant for three years, stepped up to score the winning penalty in a 4-3 shoot-out victory against last season's regional champions in the quarter-final stages.

He said: "We beat the current champions so we think we've got a good chance.

"We still can't believe we have got this far.

"Friends and family will be coming down to support us.

"It will be amazing to play at the home of English football.

"I hope we can rise to the occasion and bring home the trophy."

The core of the team play futsal in The Grimsby Futsal League.

Fusion Colts make it 3 wins on bounce

Stuart Orr

Lions Pride

Spartans 2 Lions Pride 7
Little Devils 0 Fusion Colts 4  Futsal Tigers 5 Elite 4
Red Dragons 0 GSC Dynamite 2

This was Spartans first game as a team and it showed, they was having to pick up tactics as the game played - not easy.  The signs was there that the team has the talent to progress.

Lions Pride was more confident, with every player knowing his job, they passed and moved with great effect.

The result has been recorded as a Lions Pride win. Stu Orr has to be commended that he has offered to replay the game, Spartans took the game at short notice then allowed him to play a loaned player to make up his team as they was one player short.

Little Devils did not turn up, Fusion was quicker to see danger, and more intelligent with the ball.

Fusion now travel to Spain to play in a tournament, lets hope they can continue  current run of form.

Is there a new order taking place?

Elite and Little Devils topped the last league - they both lost!

Elite had a 3-1 lead at one stage, but Tigers mauled them when they discovered Elite lacked a defencive defencive strategy when pressed.

Dynamite want believe the league table this week.

Week one they was hammered, two games later they have four points and are second in table.

After only three weeks this league is looking really interesting.

Discoveries Titans 12 vs. Humberstone Futsal 6

Football can be a strange game, Humberstone showed no fear as they rattled Titans bar and forced great keeping saves. Titans responded and by five minutes it was 2-2 all on cross bar or hit post encounters.

Humberstone then suffered on counter breaks and was 0-3 before they cleared their heads.  To their credit they rectified this to 3-3, but could not rectify the defensive element of the game, which cost them dearly.

Humberstone need to work on three key elements of the game, defence-defence and defence, goals will come automatically.

Grimsby's Ben Mortlock shines in England victory.
Written by Joey Winson

index2.jpg  Three of Sheffield FC Futsal’s title winning team were involved in international action at the weekend with a great 2-1 victory over Montenegro.

Ollie O’Neil, Ben Mortlock and goalkeeper Chris Holmes were involved an ever improving squad that beat a side over 30 places ahead of them in the world rankings.

The win at Hereford’s Point 4 venue avenged a 4-2 defeat a day earlier, and the result is ideal preparation for their upcoming encounters, in Sheffield, against Greece next month.

The games will take place at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield on Friday June 24, kick off 7.30pm and Saturday June 25, kick off at 4pm. Tickets are available from www.arenaticketshop.co.uk through the ticket hotline on to 0114 256 55 67 or in person at the Motorpoint Arena Box Office.

An interview with Sheffield’s England international goalkeeper Curtis Holmes is also on the FA website at http://www.thefa.com/England/england-futsal/News/2011/holmes-200511

How to legally field an extra player
Written by Kevin Bryant
Saturday, 21 May 2011
j0434001brazil_ball_small.jpg

I saw the headline above and my mind jumped all over the place.  Was it a trick refereeing question? Did the question involve using the goal keeper as sweeper or fly-er?

The answer should have been obvious, how many times have I watched, or played in a game. when the opposition have seemed to have an extra player. The reason that team 'has' 'an extra player' is because their players know how to find space, how to pass and move, how to lose a marker, the end result is appearing to have 'an extra player.'

Never more true than in the tight spaces on a futsal court.

East Marsh Inter

Everglaze  East 3 Marsh Inter 6  Toll Bar 4 Humberstone 4 (Friendly)

Had this been just a league game there looked little to play for, East marsh had won league and Everglaze looked save on paper for second position.  The fact that it doubled as a Cuo qualifier added spice.

The full forty minutes was brilliantly contested by both teams. Every element of the game was contested, hard but fairly, only occasionally, and not unexpected in such a game did a player briefly over step the mark.

Inter looked frail in the opening minutes, poor defending gifted Everglaze a goal, this was compounded when Charlie Jillings called a substitution that was badly timed and cost a second goal (0-2).

A gaol retrieved and two hit posts gave Inter a boost, 2-2, and then 2-3 down as the half time whistle blew.

The game changed dramatically in the second period , Inter levelled and then led. Everglaze threw everything at them, but could not score. As so often happens Inter opened up a 2-0 lead off a counter attack.  Five minutes left, Everglaze just could not get the break they needed and Inter scored off the last kick. Dan Payne will be ruing his Ever' team mates as he several times had engineered tap in goal positions, but the final killer pass did not arrive.

Game a credit to both teams.

Toll Bar (u/16) was relieved of playing older teams with a friendly against Humbertsone (u/14)

Humberstone was a surprise package, always behind they  battled to a fully deserved draw.

Most impressive was their futsal knowledge, they had not played for months, arrived with a large squad and played better than most, if not all men's teams I have seen starting from a similar position.

For someone so young team manager Bradely Milne has to be commended.

Fusion 6 Lions Pride 3  Little Devils 3 GSC Dynamite 3 Rules
Fixtures

Fusion send out message to rest of league.

Lions Pride was a test to gauge exactly where Fusion are at, Lions Pride are experienced at futsal, losing two games on the trot is a new experience for them.

Manager Stu Orr says he is not panicking, he knows his team can play better.

Credit to Fusion for such a great start.

Not the score expected after GSC Dynamite's disastrous opening game.

Little Devils moved from a 2-2 formation to the traditional 1-2-1 set up, this caused initial confusion.

In junior football/futsal sometimes results have to take a back seat to learning, how many times has someone said on a National sports programme recently that Barcelona youth teams lose many games because they have to play passing football.

The long term goal has to be more important than the short term win.

Please note that teams are only allowed 3 direct fouls in a half, the 4th and every subsequent foul is a free shot from the 10 meter mark.

Fouls start again at zero at start of second period.

NO SLIDE TACKLES

I will endeavour to keep 2 weeks fixtures posted to web.

For it to work teams need to let me know more than 2 weeks in advance if they cannot make future matches.

''Wissam'' goal ends penalty shoot out dead lock!

Tuesday games - All CUP ties.

StreetSoccer 3 Vs  Franklin 6

Shamrock 3 Vs Willows Valiant 9
All Blacks 4 Vs El Dogoes 4 Trawl 5 Vs Clee Wanderers 3
StreetSoccer started excellently with a goal of the month contender from StreetSoccers ''Dan Taylor'' who lobbed Franklin's ''Gav'' from inside his own half, Franklin reacted with a six goal thriller to see them through to the next round.
Willows dominated throughout with good build up play from Vals ''Dale'' who could easily be a contender for top scorer in the competition, With good hold up play from ''Chiz'' even with ''Paul Goodhand'' playing for Shamrock they just couldn't get through Willows defence who proceed to next round.
After a 4-4 draw, Both teams went to penalties, & after 5 each it went to sudden death after 3 goals & 2 saved/missed each. El Dogoe's ''Burger'' stepped up & hit the post, All Black's ''Wissam'' sealed their victory to take them through to the next round of the cup.
A game that could of gone either way, Trawl kept the ball well, patiently waiting for an opening whilst Clee was waiting for a mistake for counter attack, a risky game to play as it invites shots on goal, Trawls ''Scott Gittens'' the difference.

Wednesday Games

Newton Heath 12 OWKN 7
GRS 3 Fresh 6
Weight Watchers 3 AFC Trawler-men 4

Scartholonia 4 Grimsby Soccer Club 6

Cup Qualifying Round

Remarkable OWKN got this close, they started short of players and only made up numbers whilst game was playing.

Team Manager DM was playing cricket!

GRS conceded that Fresh's greater fitness was the key to them losing the game.

Stop Mr Perpetual Motion (Scott Harris) and you have a chance.

Trawl' will pass you to death, they don't rush attacks just for the sake of attacking, they like to control the ball and the game.

Weight Watchers lack of defensive discipline gave the Trawler-men the opportunities they needed.

GSC have taken over the mismanaged Keelby team.

Scartholonia won the midfield game, squandering the match with squandered chances and goal keeping errors.
