BT have led me and the league down very badly. It has taken from the 8th August, the date I moved house, until today to move my telephone service and connect broadband. I now have broadband but at the expense of the telephone. Endless 30 - 50 minutes waiting on 'customer service' helplines have driven me to dispear. If you read that I have hung myself on a telephone chord you will at least know why!

Futsal - basement battle. |

Thursday, 19 July 2007 |
The bottom two teams of the Kent Street league; Everglaze and Futsal Warriors, met in a game full of drama.
The early stages gave no clue as to the outcome as Everglaze ran up a first quarter 3-0 lead with goals from Dankley, Brennan and Frizzell. Futsal Warriors reduced this to a half time 3-2 with two late strikes. Warriors had been wasteful in front of goal and those 2 late goals put a clearer picture on the score.
Straight into the restart Warriors equalize, 3-3, 4-3 Warriors, then the ever dangerous Eunn levels 4-4. Then a massive collective loss of concentration by Evergalze as they allow Warriors to score direct from the restart - 5-4 Warriors.
Everglaze rally, Eunn scores into the top corner, gaolllllllll. Keeper Michael Woods had different ideas, he arches into the air and tips the ball, that is already behind him and going into top corner over the cross bar. How he did it I do not know; a professional keeper would have been proud of the save. My save of the season.
Two late Warriors goals saw the team home 7-4, a score the bookies would have given you strong odds against after 10 minutes.
He did not score but key for Warriors was Brian Pickering who was always on the assists sheet.
Great game played in Great Spirit.
Warriors scorers: Dean Wood, Mark Evans (3), Anthony Harley, Rick Precious, Chris Feltham, Brian Pickering |

LINDSEY FUTSAL TEAMS IN NATIONAL FUTSAL FINALS SUCCESS
Both the Lindsey School and Community Arts College Year 9 and Year 11 Boys Futsal teams are celebrating after both achieving runners up places at the national finals in Sheffield.
After winning their regional tournaments in Sheffield, the teams were both confident of success, especially the Year 11 team, who were defending the title won last year. All the games were played at the Institute of Sport, and featured teams from all around the county, who had won qualifying competitions.
The Year 9 team faced a tough league, which included county representative teams and centres of excellence, including Brentford FC. The team featured good players of their own, with Ricky Smith, Oliver McGrath and Greg Stiffell looking to impress. The Year 11 team included Futsal experts Lewis Peters and Jack Debnam, and two Year 10 boys in Tom Parker and Joe Hutchinson.
The Year 11 team played seven matches in total, winning five, drawing one and losing one. The defeat was to prove clostly, as Team United lifted the title. Highlights from the tournament were Jimmy Majors impressive debut in goal, Jake Thompsons reliability in defence and Joe Hutchinsons strikes which earned him top scorer. The boys were pleased with runners up, but know that the title was there for the taking.
The Year 9 tournament was very close, with three teams at the end battling it out for the National title. The TLS team made a great start, beating the Lincolnshire FA Development team 1-0, but then failed to deliver the goals that should have brought more victories. The tournament went to the final game, and the team were edged out 1-0 by the Brentford FC team. Coach Les Jones was pleased with his teams efforts, and signalled out keeper Greg Stiffell as his man of the tournament.
The next football for the TLS teams is the Umbro International Football Cup in Dublin, where the Year 9 and Year 10 teams are battling against teams from across Europe and America.

Gunners Watch
Captain D. Powers & manager M.Rouse
After an exhausting season Gunners Watch became the first team to win the title since 2004; the date when Nicol Magpies started there domination. Nicol Magpies had won Grimsby futsal leagues VII, VIII and IX.
Early season form was with Gunners as Magpies started out with 3 drawn games. Gunners form was consistent win win, win; until tragedy struck in the shape of knee ligament damage for star player Dale Jenkins. A major operation resulted from which Dale is still recovering. Players with speed and skill are irreplaceable and results dipped in the second half of the season as a direct result of Dales injury.
It says a lot for the team that they battled on to win the title as their comfortable lead diminished point by point.
The title was not certain until the final whistle of the final game. Grimsby Catalonia might have been Magpies in disguise as they made Gunners work for the title in that final game. When the whistle blew Gunners had triumphed 3-2. One slip one blip and 3-3 would have lost them the title, thats how close the Monday night Premier League was.
The league was a credit to all the teams involved; league XI opens new challenges; Harvest FC, Wanderers, Opium FC has all joined the league with serious intentions of winning. To retain the title will be a greater challenge than winning it; Magpies will admit that they had some easy games, those days are gone.
If you enjoy football and want to know more about the futsal fuss get down to Second Avenue on a Monday night and see for yourself.

Futsal - Lower placed teams have improved week. |
|
Written by Kevin Bryant
|
|
Thursday, 05 July 2007 |
The top half of all 4 leagues are developing into mini leagues within the leagues; batches of teams to closely matched to call results.
Every week there are matches that are well worth the trouble of getting out to watch. Next weeks fixture that catches is the eye is Youngs Seafoods vs. Second Avenue. Its a week to kick off and both teams have requested strong independent referees! Last week top placed Second Avenue draw 7-7 with 4th placed Grimsby Auditorium; a game reported to me as one of the best ever played at the Resource Centre. Across the board the standards of all the teams is improving.
Whats happening in the bottom half of the leagues; ignoring the Premier League, which attracts its own publicity?
The Grimsby Futsal League is now attracting younger teams, they are expected to struggle initially as they lack physic and futsal experience, but once they have paid their dues watch these teams take off.
ECGS have the benefit of a couple of senior heads to help them take the big step from u/16 to senior football. Have managed 1 win in 6 and never been trounced.
Hereford Futsal, watch this space, kept Magpies II to 6-1 in first game this week; with faces to add might surprise some people.
CFKA, just cant make that jump from bottom half to top half.
Rose & Crown, competitive, but short of spare faces whenever I watch them, as a consequence fitness is an issue when playing teams with energy on the bench.
Grimsby Baptist misfiring, 7 losses in 10 are hard to fathom as they have players that have proved previously that they can stay with the top teams.
Soccer PM, best name in league? Have solid performers, but need additional fire power.
Heta FC hit Hemswell 9-1 this week, the same Hemswell that lost to leaders Piemonte the previous week by an odd goal. Performance of the week.
FC Grimsby Futsal 5s, another new team stepping up from u/16 football. Learning fast, 1 win in 3.
IKBF, you always meet the nicest people at the bottom. Have the expense of traveling from Immingham in mini bus before they step onto the pitch. Getting hammered, but have new signing that will move them into sheltered water.
Kent St is a 12 team league with only 2 teams without a few wins under their belt. Everglaze keep the same squad each week, which is commendable as teams that develop are often unrecognizable 2 years later.
Futsal Warriors are bottom, of recent weeks there has been signs that competitiveness is not far away. This weeks 9-5 loss to second placed Nelson FC was another green shoot.
Tetney Rovers and Nunsthorpe, both 16+ are waiting to join the leagues having played competative frendlies against experienced opposition.
What about street soccer?? |

The Tuesday Futsal League Debate? |
|
Written by Kevin Bryant

Thursday, 28 June 2007 |
An ongoing debate has kicked off on the forums as to who will win the Tuesday League. The following facts might interest the contributors. Youngs are top based on goals scored and best goal difference, it all changes when you look at their record at the other end of the pitch.
Magpies are suffering at the opposite end, just not enough goals scored.
Second Ave has a balance throughout the team.

Magpies draw White Bear!!!!!!!!!!! |
|
Written by Kevin Bryant
|
|
Thursday, 21 June 2007 |
Magpies have probably the hardest group:
Kickers are an all Brazilians team residing in London. They were 2nd placed in this years Futsal Premier League (Southern Conference). London White Bear won the tournament in 2004 and 2006. They have twice played in the UEFA Cup for futsal. Last week they beat England 7-1 in an exhibition match at the Rioch Stadium.
Futsal Preston is an unknown quantity; which makes then dangerous in a different way.
From the 6 8th July the FA will be staging the FA Umbro Futsal Cup Finals at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. The National Finals will be contested by 16 teams originating from 40 Regional Leagues or Tournaments with the winning team gaining the right to become Englands representative in the 2008 UEFA Futsal Cup UEFAs club competition for Futsal. The Finals weekend will also feature the first Womens Senior Competition involving 16 teams as well as eight categories of youth competitions.
Futsal will be a new sport for many people but it is the world and European form of small-sided football. It has its own UEFA competitions and a FIFA World Cup. It is fast and skilful and encourages the development of technically gifted players. Futsal sustains professional leagues in Spain, Portugal, Russia, Italy, Brazil and Argentina. It is a new game that has enormous potential to develop and excite young people.
The finals will run at two venues The English Institute of Sport and Ponds Forge Sports Centre - from 1.00pm on Friday July 6 to 5.30 pm on Sunday July 8. Although you would be welcome to join us for any part of the Finals we would be delighted to invite you to attend the semi finals and finals of the Mens and Womens Championship competition from 12.30 a.m on Sunday. The Finals of the Womens and Mens competition start at 3.30 and 4.00 pm respectively.

Magpies captain Mark Huntley about to convert penalty vs. Leeds Barca
Leeds Barca 3 Hull Gemtec 8 Hull Gemtec 2 Nicol Magpies 2 Leeds Barca 4 Nicol Magies 10
Magpies Nicol will once again represent Grimsby in the FA National Futsal Finals in Sheffield after winning the regional qualifying tournament in dramatic fashion on Sunday. Magpies went into the final game of the tournament needing a victory by at least five goals against Leeds-based FC Barsa to clinch a place in July's finals and they achieved it with an emphatic 10-4 victory.
After topping the Grimsby Futsal League, Magpies had to travel to Hull's Gemtec Arena to face the leading teams from the Northern Premier Futsal League for a much-sought after place at the prestigious National Finals. Despite missing influential striker Paul Goodhand through injury, Magpies took a strong squad to the North Bank - six of the eight-man squad represented Magpies in last year's National Finals. In the opening game of the day, FC Barsa faced Hull Gemtec. The experienced team from Hull, packed with former professional and semi-professional footballers, eased past the Barsa youngsters eight goals to three. A notable performer for Hull was former Stoke, Southampton and West Brom full back Graham Potter, whose cultured left foot proved the catalyst for much of Hull's attacking play.
In the second game, Magpies came up against Hull Gemtec. In a cagey opening, Magpies spent much of the first half on the back foot, defending resolutely against the speedy Hull forwards. Magpies were unable to sustain any possession and goalkeeper Dale Spalding had to be quickly off his line to thwart several Hull attacks. As the half went on, Magpies settled and began to hit their opponents on the break and they got the breakthrough goal with a well taken strike from Danny Durusemo. In the second half, Magpies continued to defend with excellent shape and discipline, closing down attackers and throwing themselves in front of goal-bound shots. Excellent challenges from Danny Webber and Craig Ashworth denied the dangerous Potter any chances on goal. Still Magpies were dangerous on the break and they were rewarded with a second goal, again the superb Durusemo applying the finish. At 2-0 down, Hull threw more men forward and their pressure paid off with a good strike to make it 2-1. Magpies had their chances to finish the game off but back came Hull with an equalising goal five minutes from time. In a frantic finale, both sides could have gone on to win the game but the draw was a fair result.
The 2-2 scoreline meant that in the final game, Magpies had to beat FC Barsa by a bigger margin than Hull's 8-3 win over the Leeds-based side to win the tournament. Magpies attacked from the first whistle and a couple of early goals from skipper Mark Huntley gave them the belief that they could go on to achieve the task in hand. However, Magpies were reduced to four players when defender Ashworth saw red for a rash tackle. The extra man paid off for FC Barsa and they got themselves back in the game at 2-1. That was the wake-up call Magpies needed and after being restored to five players, they played some scintillating futsal. Goals from Danny Hornigold (2), Lee Wilkinson (2) and Durusemo put Magpies 7-1 up with the game just fifteen minutes old. Barsa pulled one back but Huntley completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot to restore Magpies's six goal advantage at half-time. If they could remain six goals ahead, Magpies knew they would be heading for the Sheffield finals. As Magpies tired in the second half, they began to give away possesion and made things difficult from themselves at times with some sloppy passing. Barsa pulled two further goals back to make it 8-4 but Magpies were not to be denied. The tireless Wilkinson added his second and Durusemo deservedly completed his hat-trick to make it 10-4 to put the joyous Magpies team through.
Magpies will eagerly await news of the draw for the Finals on 6th to 8th July at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, where they will be looking to improve on last year's performance as Plate runners-up.
