Another
boost for Grimsby futsal as Ben Mortlock becomes the 3rd local player to
proudly wear an England shirt. Ben is far left bottom row in the picture below.
The
picture was taken prior to England vs. Libya which England lost 3-2. Ben
was brought down for the penalty which narrowed the score and gave England an
opportunity to take a major futsal scalp.
Ben has
previously played for Middlesbrough University which gave him the opportunity
to play for BUSA internationally.
Locally
he has played for Magpies and this season Gunners Watch when the opportunity
has arisen.
Those
other England players from Grimsby? Paul Goodhand (Boston Town) and Lewis
Axcell. Unlike Ben and Paul - Lewis has never played in the Grimsby League; he
achieved international status whilst at Sheffield and Hallam University.
Libya's
record in 2008 Futsal world Cup, Spain lost to Brazil in final. The tightness
of the GD illustrates the competiveness of the group:
Lindsey School accepted an FA invitation to play FC Enfield as a show piece game sandwiched between Libya vs. Lithuania and England vs. Republic of Ireland at the FA FUTSAL FOUR NATIONS TOURNAMENT. A great honour for the school and Grimsby Futsal.
Lindsey dominated their southern rivals to win 6-1.
Chris Harmer can be very pleased with a personal tally of 4 goals.
As league games run out every game is vital for Fulstow (v
Grimsby All Blacks) and Catalonia (v Gunners Watch); one slip and either could forfeit
title, or leave the door open for BBS Couriers. All Blacks' nick game by 1 goal, a long overdue win given their quality. Catalonia win without real pressure from a struggling Gunners Watch. Manager Dean Gladwell pulls off a master stroke replacing suspended 'Chizz' with Paul Goodhand.
College vs. Young’s gives an opportunity for College to get
first win of season; says a lot for standard of league that College are bottom;
they are not a bad side. Still nothing going right for College.
Tuesday:
StreetSoccer V. Auditorium is the match that jumps up at
you. Excellent 7-3 win for StreetSoccer.
Wednesday:
Hemswell v Legends is the game.Hemswell have moved up a level on last season’s
play, Legends can attack, but don’t give full respect to defence.Tight game. Hemsell struggled to get a team out but still won.
Result that makes me want to double check referee score card - Wolfpak 7 Baptist Church 8!!
Kent Tuesday:
Batch of great games; 2 that catch the eye are title
aspirants AFC Snoop and Spiders Web against younger upstarts Humberstone and
HTS Eindhoven; both are capable of causing a surprise. Eindhoven 5 Spiders 2! Humberstone 5 AFC Snoop 4! For good measure Kent St beat Willows Chinese 4-2. I shall start doing the pools tomorrow.
Kent Thursday:
Inter v. Latics.Inter
need to be aware Latics are under new management; this is not the easy game was
7 days ago. Sure enough Latics win, bur with a far better team than I expected would show?

Girls u/13 Futsal Team Need Opposition
Written by Kevin Bryant
Sunday, 14 December 2008
Broughton Ravers Girls (near Scunthorpe) football team are
keen to continue the team’s football education in conjunction with playing
futsal. Coach Steve Watson uses the game
as a training tool, but would like his girls to get the benefit of playing a
variety of opposition.
Steve is happy to give your team a free ‘introduction to
futsal coaching session if the futsal is new to your team.
If you are unsure about futsal, Google the word; you will be amazed that a worldwide phenomenon has
missed your team.
The game that could seal the Premier League championship Fulstow Rovers vs. Grimsby Catalonia.
Cats win 9-4 and move 2 points clear with a game in hand!
Tuesday 6-15 KO 2nd Avenue
The game that will decide the Tuesday League Champions. StreetSoccer vs. Littlefields II.
Littlefieds sign experienced Gunners player Mathew Payne, enough to tip the game Littlefieds way. Score 4-2. Littlefield's now 12 points behind with 4 to play. Both teams have Grimsby Auditorium to play, not cut and dried points for either team.
Wednesday 8-30 KO 2nd Avenue
Piemonte vs. Hemswell, both teams have lost just 2 games,
neither can afford a loss.
Due to serious illness of Piemonte manager and futsal stalwart Vic Harris, game postponed. Hemswell played Harvest Works instead, Harvest was team tipped as title challengers, but Hemswell disposed of them in tidy fashion 9-4. Hemswell could go 2nd if they win games in hand.
Tuesday Kent St. 6-45 KO
1 vs. 3 Spiders Web vs. AFC Snoop; a must win for both
teams.
9-4 AFC Snoop. Snoop ran up an early 4-0 lead before Spiders got into stride; once they did it was a valiant effort to put ready poor start. Spiders' cushion at top reduced to 3 points on Snoop and 5 on Willows Chinese who dropped 2 points drawing against basement team Humberstone. I watched full game which ended 9-9. Humberstone grabbing a well deserved last minute goal; something is wrong with their league placing, it was the best performance I have witnessed from a bottom placed team.
Thursday Kent St.6-00 KO
Futsal Warriors vs. Immingham, ‘wooden spoon’ head to head.’
Immingham nick game 6-5. Suprise result Grimsby Jets 11 North Somercotes Academy 6.
New teams always welcome, Kevin Bryant 07980 286663

Great honour for Lincolnshire Futsal
Written by Rob Allenby
Thursday, 20 November 2008
The Lindsey School & Community Arts U16 Futsal team have been invited to a prestigious international Futsal event in December, confirming their place as the best school for Futsal in Lincolnshire.
The team were invited by Dermot Collins, Head of Small Sides Football at The FA, after hearing rave reviews about the teams performance over the last couple of years. The boys finished runners up in the last two FA National Futsal Finals at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
The team will be playing in an exhibition match at Loughborough University, on a full size international pitch at their world class facilities.
The match will be sandwiched between two full international matches, which are Libya vs Lithuania and England vs Republic of Ireland. The TLS team will have an opportunity to watch the England international after their own match has been completed.
There is guaranteed to be a large crowd in attendance to watch the home nation, so the boys from TLS will get an opportunity to play in front of a receptive audience.
Director of Football Rob Allenby was delighted by the news; ‘This is just deserts for the effort the school has put into small sided football over the last few years. At TLS, pupils have the opportunity to play Futsal, and we get experienced coaches from the local area to help us improve. This is a real shot in the arm for sport at the Lindsey School and Community Arts College.’
Football Performance Director Les Jones was equally happy; ‘This is a real test of nerve for the team, but one they should relish. Opportunities do not come along every day to play before an international match, so we will hopefully put on a good show and make the people of Grimsby proud. At the end of the day this is great news for TLS Sport.’
Novartis Update - Play a friendly if your team has no game
Written by Kevin Bryant
Sunday, 16 November 2008
The League is expanding into the new futsal specific venue at Novartis; currently I have Monday/Tuesday not fully used; if your team has a free week and wants a friendly game let me know. Better if you know a new team that might not be aware of the demands of futsal, and would like to give the game a try lets get a date in the diary.
If you have any ideas that might work please pass your thoughts on; a lads and dads night has been suggested, my own idea is for a ladder league. For those that don't know a ladder league plays continuously with a monthly champion, teams progress up the ladder by challenging teams ahead of them, teams must play 3/4 games in each month to qualify as Champions. League might better be called a snakes and ladder league. Ideas please

Super Tuesday - The Outcome
Written by Kevin Bryant
Sunday, 16 November 2008
Will the congestion at the top of Kent St League be cleared after the nights results are known was the question.
League IV champions AFC Snoop play current League V leader Willows Chinese. 4th placed AFC are 3 points behind; making it a 6 pointer for both teams.
Snoop rise to their Champions challenge 9-4.
Spiders Web are 2nd but only on goal difference, 3rd placed Eindhoven are on same points but 2 games more. Both teams have to win for differing reasons, the pressure is on.
Spiders Web raised their game a level 10-5. Lead table by 3 points followed by 3 teams on 21 points.
Le osterals are on the fringe of things, waiting for mistakes from others. They have stragglers Humberstone in game they cannot afford to be complacent in, Humberstone are in the position Willows was in 2 seasons ago, getting 'futsal' lessons from more experienced opposition.
Humberstone raised their game by some distance if my reading of the score is correct 9-6. The Osterals I saw last week was a very competent team, for Humberstone to get their first win in 10 against them is a shock result.
Second Avenue is not to be beaten on matches, 6 of the top 7 play each other!
We could see StreetSoccer off the top after appearing to own the position. If they lose to Whakker, if Littlefields beat Magpies II. If those 2 games are not enough ElDogoes (7th and not out of it with games in hand) play 3rd place Auditorium who are back in form.
StreetSoccer see of Whakker challenge 8-5; Littlefields keep pressure on Streetsoccer beating Magpies 7-5; El Dogoes dent Auditorium hopes and leave door open for their own charge 4-2.
To make the night bottom placed newcomers Paragon and Mariners are head to head with a wooden spoon head to head. Great for both team as they spoils scoring 1 goal a piece.
