Futsal Head Coach Peter Sturgess remains positive after game
with Israel.

England Futsal Head
Coach Peter Sturgess was in positive mood on Friday evening, despite seeing his
team turned over by Israel at the Point 4 venue in Hereford.
The Three
Lions squad have been together all week in training ahead of their two games
with Israel and Sturgess believes he has seen enough from his players both in
training and in the game that there could be a bright future for English
Futsal.
If anything, Sturgess' team maybe peaked too early on Friday when
captain Luke Ballinger slotted them ahead in the sixth minute after a fine move
through midfield, but an equally stunning equaliser from Lior Cohen two minutes
later brought things level.
Israel then took the lead with two more
quickfire goals in the 16th and 19th minutes from Adam Cohen and Marko Hazan to
go in at the break with a commanding lead.
The second half saw no goals,
but both teams came close and there was some exciting Futsal on show for the
lively crowd in attendance.
"We started really well and took the lead,
but what we're not used to doing at international level is taking the lead and
holding onto it for long periods," explained Sturgess after the
game.
"For us to take the lead and cause them some problems was a great
positive for us, but what we didn't do was hold that lead for long
enough.
"When you get in front in international football, you have to
keep that lead."
The two teams will meet again on Saturday for a second
game and Sturgess will be looking to find out more about his team in that
meeting, but he has been pleased with his players so far.
"The lads have
actually taken quite a bit of confidence from the game, so we hope to build on
that," he added.
"I've been happy with the whole week and the commitment
of the England Futsal team is never in question, it's just how quickly we can
get to grips with this great game of Futsal.
"We have another training
camp in November and then we travel to Libya to play them and they're the
African champions so that will be a real test."
After a long hard season Littlefields finally claimed the title they had laid imposter's to all season. As the subsequent tables show Littlefields' ran away with the first 9 games and then had a scrappy last 9; Youngs' was the opposite with 3 defeats in the first 9, but a brilliant last 9, unfortunately for the team they crashed in the game that had to be won; the last game of the season show down with Littlefieds. A game they crashed 9-1; a score that does not recognise the teams contribution to the league and the challenge they made to claw back Littlefields' rampant start.
Littlefieds Futsal under the guidance of Callum Blythe has now won the Kent St. Leagues and the Second Avenue Premier and Tuesday Leagues; a unique achievement. Due to work commitments the team is splitting and Littlefields will take a well earned sabbatical from Premier League futsal. Watch this space as to where the players will end up playing; rumours abound.
Willows Valiant has won the VI Grimsby Tuesday League; chased by Potter Futsal to the last games of the season when they fell away. Both teams are now progressing to the Second Avenue venue; Valiant to the Premier League and Potter to the Tuesday League. This leaves spaces open in the Kent St. Tuesday League.
Given the proliferation of 5 aside leagues in Grimsby a new model is being trailed at Kent St. for the duration of League VII.
The changes are:
A team can elect to play 4v4 rather than 5v5 if they are short of players. (4v4 has been trailed on the smaller Kent St pitch and worked perfectly well)
Because there is a shortage of GK's teams can use their own GK or use another teams GK without the opposition's permission.
Teams can use loan players from other teams, only 1 loan player may be on the pitch at any time (does not include the GK).
A substantial prize will be given to the winning team, subject to them being a current member of the GFL playing as a team on an alternative night.
The reason for the proposed trial:
To expand the amount of futsal available to players whilst making it easier for a team to fulfil a fixture given the work, college and media pressures on the team.

Young's back on top, but for how long?
Written by Kevin Bryant

What a Premier League
finish! Young's grabbed 3 points against a depleted Fulstow squad who
almost made a second half come back after a first 20 dominated by
Youngs'. To add spice to Young's night a very strong Cleethorpe Motors
beat Littlefields 7-1. Leaving Littllefields 3 points behind Young's
with a game in hand, both teams have same goal difference! Next week
Litts' have Shamrock Rovers and last game, as if planned to perfection
(Young's vs. Littlefields).
Banker away win, Futsal Legends had other ideas, can Legends be new Tuesday League suprise package?

The FA has introduced relegation to the league commencing January; a wake up call to all concerned to raise standards and be competitive.
Grimsby has secured one of the best venues in the UK as its home ground (Gemtec Stadium, Hull); the teams first major sponsor has committed to 3 years; other irons are in the fire.
The team is the responsibility of everyone in the GFL, if you can assist the team in any capacity we would be pleased to hear from you.

New age groups added to Junior Futsal Leagues
Written by Kevin Bryant
Saturday, 15 August 2009
The inaugural Novartis Junior Futsal Leagues were well received by all teams. As a result age groups are to be extended; teams will now play under 10, 12, 14 & 16. Interest has been shown for a girls league, if the demand can be shown for girls futsal a league will be added.
Breaking news is that Manchester City are to incorporate futsal into their junior academy, Chelsea are now showing a futsal interest. Next week Grimsby Soccer Club under 9's, they utilise futsal as a training tool, are to visit Manchester City at their training ground.
With the Grimsby Institute about to take an active role in promoting futsal, the game can only continue to advance.

England vs. Israel (Friday 9th & Sat 10th October 2009

Gavin Satain has recieved official notification of his first international refereeing appointment; a tremendouse achievment for Gavin.
If Ben Mortlock continues in the England playing squad we could be looking at a unique Grimsby double.
Assistant Grimsby manager and top scorer in the FA
League North, Mathew Payne has taken up the opportunity to transfer to
table leaders Middlesborough. He has the full backing of myself, and I
hope the team, to accept the challenge they offered, in what we trust
will be a short term move to the advantage of all concerned.
Mathew
is unavailable for the final 2 Grimsby games due to work commitments,
were as he can play Boro's last 2 games, cement his record as leagues
top scorer, and if the cards fall as they should, leave himself with an
opportunity to play in the FA North/South/Midlands play off were he
will be watched by the England coaching staff playing against the next
best 2 teams in England.
Matt will learn more in those 2 games, the opposition will be prodimnatly Brazilian, than playing 2 seasons in the GFL.
I am convinced Matt will be as prolific for Boro as he has been for Grimsby.
Credit to both teams for an excellent final that grasped the spectators attention for the full 40 minutes. Littlefields' Futsal went into the game hot favourites, vastly more experienced as individuals and as a team. Potter Futsal was the first team from Kent Street to reach the final, the fact that they did in their first futsal season speaks volume's for the teams capacity to learn and adapt. Apart from playing more experienced opponents they had to adapt to Littlefieds' much larger Second Avenue home.
Potter was never in-front in the game, but was always close until the 5th goal. The game was played at a blistering pace, the team with the ball was dominating play, defences were tested to breaking point, both keepers made last ditch saves when a goal looked the most probable outcome.
Always when Littlefieds' scored there was that deja-vu feeling that Potter would capitulate as other had done before, it never happened, Potter was there for the full ten rounds, no easy knockout here.
The injured Paul Goodhand (Potter Futsal) was on the side line, what if had he been fit? Kent Street just might have had their first Grimsby Futsal Cup winner, we shall never know.
An absolute credit to both teams that greatly impressed our sponsors Guinness Northern Counties who we must thank once again for their generous support.
Referees Gavin Sartain, Dean Gladwell and Lee Bartlett managed the game in exemplary manor.
