Harvest rang the changes for their game at Heckington with
no fewer than five changes from the team that beat leaders Ruston two weeks
ago. It proved a worthwhile exercise with Harvest winning 10-1.
The first came after eight minutes when striker Dale Mason
played fellow front-man Daniel Durosemo through and he beat the keeper with a
low drive.
Five minutes later Durosemo returned the favour, beating his
marker when Heckington were appealing for offside saw Durosemo square the ball
across the goal for Mason to slam the ball home.
It was now Harvest attacking at will with the pace of Durosemo
and Mason being a constant thorn in the Heckington side.
On twenty minutes Harvest increased their lead when Shane
Garvie (picture) latched onto a Freddie Cass through ball, although Garvie was brought
down he reacted quickest and got up the race clear and steer the ball home. Harvest
was attacking at every opportunity and it was no surprise when Durosemo added a
fourth when he chipped the ball over the oncoming keeper after great work by
Aaron Goodwin. Not to be outdone Mason added his second when he latched onto a
clearance from keeper Ashley Kiff to volley the ball home.
Heckington pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time
when keeper Kiff somehow misjudged the spin of the ball and promptly dropped it
into his own net!
The second half saw a more determined Heckington come at
Harvest but the back four of A.Goodwin, K.Barwick, N.Goodwin and skipper Kirk Wheeler
were standing firm. It was twenty minutes before Harvest netted again when
Mason netted a Garvie corner. Minutes later it was Garvie on the score sheet
again when he broke clear of the Heckington off-side trap to round the keeper
before slotting home into an empty net. Harvest then replaced N.Goodwin and Jon
Oglseby with Luke Marshall and Gareth Beecham, it was Beecham who set up the
next Harvest goal, he broke down the right and crossed for Garvie to seal his
hat-trick as he swept the ball home Two minutes later Mason broke clear and
laid the ball into the path of Garvie to net his fourth. By this time it was
target practise for Harvest and they ended the scoring when midfielder Freddie
Cass drove home through a crowded goalmouth.
The quality of this perfornace should be measured against a very good Heckington team that had previouslt taken Harvest to extra time in the County Cup.
Final Result Heckington 1 - 10 Harvest FC.
Harvest team; Ashley Kiff, Nico Goodwin, Aaron Goodwin, Kurt
Barwick, Kirk Wheeler (Capt.), Freddie Cass, Dale Mason, Daniel Durosemo, Danny
Hornigold, Jon Oglesby, Shane Garvie. Subs; Gareth Beecham, Luke Marshall, Matt
Bryant.
Stand out result was Willows Valiant 3 Shamrock Rovers 5 and as such has to be the team performance of the week.
Yarra a comprehensive win over BBS Couriors was another straong result as was Grimsby Soccer Club over 40's tight win over Market Hotel.
Little Devils 6-4 victory over Lightening Lads, in the under 11's league, was achieved with much style. Tom, the LD's keeper led by example with the best keeper distribution I have seen in this league.
Elswere in the junior league there was great individual performances, in all cases on teams that lost. Which highlights that the game is not just about winning, you could have the best performance of your life and be on the losing team.

Grimsby Jets failing to get a team
out vs. Bench Warmers
Teams must be aware that once they join a league then they
have a responsibility to finish that league season, or face the costs.
League rules sanctioned by the LFA state that a team must
complete their fixtures or are liable for a £50 fine and remaining match
fees. All players that have signed or
put a foot on the pitch for that team are equally responsible.
Asking the LFA to ban those players if they do
not pay their fine is a draconian move taken as a last result.
FC Grimsby 9 Oldham 0

Great start to Football Association Futsal League North for
FC Grimsby.
Opponents Oldham was playing their first ever FA League game
having qualified through a very strong play off group. For Grimsby they were a complete unknown
quantity that had to be given maximum respect.The FCGY team’s last friendly was against Middlesborough, 2009 North winners;
a game that gave the Grimsby team notice preparation was behind schedule.
The was a good feeling when the squad meet up at the Gemtec
Arena (Hull), the attitude and focus for the game was apparent.
Coach Ammy Nije put through an impressive warm that
sharpened the players touch on the ball, pre kick off preparation had gone
well.
New face Aaron Smith (Young’s’ Seafood’s’) was given a place
in the starting 5, along with Mathew Payne (Captain), Daniel Hornigold, and Sam
Brooks (all Fulstow Rovers), Leigh Graves was keeper.
The game started at a strong pace; it was evident from the
first minute that Oldham was an organised team well prepared for the game. The first 10 minutes was nip and tuck,
Grimsby always bossing the game but unable to create clear cut chances against
a team that defended on the edge of their own penalty area ready to play on the
counter attack.A dangerous tactic that
cost them eventually, the Oldham keeper had saved several goal bound efforts,
one had to go in eventually, and it did. Mathew Payne finishing off neat passing move
to shoot FC GY 1-0 up on 10 minutes.
FCGY continue to dominate the ball, but at 1-0 could not
feel comfortable, Grimsby need a second goal.It duly arrived seconds before half time.Sam Brooks dribbled 2 men and from a tight
angle a volley; the Oldham keeper looked to have saved, fortunately the power
of the shot took the ball over the goal line.2-0, the half time team strategy had changed.
The second half started very similar to the first period,
Grimsby dominating possession whilst being denied clear cut chances. What was evident at this point was that the
team was mastering the art of possession, not getting frustrated when
possession was not being reflected in goals scored. The team, no matter how the squad was rotated
was patient, aware that possession is a version of defence when your team has a
2 goal advantage.
25 minutes gone and Oldham showed no signs of wilting; a
third Grimsby gaol (Mathew Payne) altered the Oldham tactics.Oldham called a 1 minute time out.The instructions could be anticipated, they
need to push on, take chances, and Oldham needed a goal.Aware, Grimsby defended deeper and tighter
and planned to hit them on the break, it worked nicely as Aaron Smith and Simon
Taylor (Grimsby Catalonia) broke in a 2v1 situation that gave Aaron a simple
back post tap in. 4-0.
This was the tipping point, Grimsby had control of all
facets of the match, reaping the benefits of their graft, Grimsby was now a
yard faster than their opponents, space was opening up at will.
The last 10 minutes Grimsby ran away with the game to 9-0; Shane
Garvey having an inspired 3 goal spell.
The crowning glory was a penalty after Mathew Payne shot was
handled by a defender on his goal line; Leigh Graves stepped up to score.A clean sheet and a goal scored is a futsal
rarity to be savoured - it will not happen often.
The Grimsby Institute ‘man of the match’
was Simon Taylor; Simon made more tackles and interceptions than any other FCGY
player enabling his teams attacking players to player with greatfreedomer .
The next game is Sunday 17th away vs. Tranmere
Victoria, they are a known quantity.2009 FA Futsal League runners up to London team Helvencia.Tranmere are experienced, there will not be a
European country they have not travelled to in search of futsal knowledge. Grimsby is going into the game
with a result that will have raised heads.
“Futsal
is an extremely important way for kids to develop their skills and
understanding of the game. My touch and my dribbling have come from
playing Futsal.”
Ronaldinho, AC Milan
“I
played Futsal for two or three years before I joined Santos … Futsal
was important in helping to develop my ball control, quick thinking ,
passing … also for dribbling, balance, concentration … Futsal was very,
very important, no doubt.”
Pelé, Soccer legend
“No time plus no space equals better skills. Futebol de Salao [Futsal] is our international laboratory of improvisation.”
