Many of you will know Ben either from his Grimsby Futsal League
days with Magpies or more recently El Dogo's.
Ben studied sports science at Middlesbrough University during which
time he was star player for Middlesbrough Futsal Club, a success that
led to him being a regular member of the England Futsal team.
Having such continuous success at such a young age, makes one wander
where, and what Ben will have achieved in 5 years time.
Just a thought, has Ben been employed because Mr Woods thinks he can
improve the fitness of players or is Mr Woods accepted that his current
youth development methods, no saleable players produced in 10 years, are
not working?
(Grimsby Telegraph 14th May 2010.
'We.ve seen constantly over the last ten years where youth players
who have been outstanding at Youth level have not made the next step
up.' Neal Woods)
The Premier league is dominated by foreign footballers coached
futsal, should Grimsby Town wake up to this fact and nurture its own
futsal (football) stars. Sports science studies suggest they should
'wake up and smell the coffee.'

It could be futsal or football based.
The GFL has been invited to take a group of under 13 futsal players to play 7v7 football at the Manchester City training centre.
Grimsby Soccer Club futsal u/10's impressed when they went 2009 and as a result we have been invited back spring bank holiday 2010.
Manchester City are the first Premier League club to my knowledge to be actively promoting futsal, the club has its own development centre in Sheffield.
The lucky players, as well as getting to play on the clubs 3g 7v7 training court will in the afternoon get a guided tour of the Eastlands Stadium.
What a day out?

Grimsby Institute Performance of Week 16 - Shane Ludlow
Written by Kevin Bryant
Friday, 23 April 2010
No stand out results to report, other than the tightness of the results. No team ended a game with a -10 goal difference; which speaks volumes for teams ability to defend.
The best save I saw all week was a near post 'chest save' by Trawl keeper (Wednesday League vs. Newton Heath).
The Premier League gave me my Grimsby Institute goal of the week. Shane Ludlow in a defencive position beat 2 attackers without allowing the ball to touch the floor, played a forward pass, (ball still in air) which he followed to recieve the return and place into the opponents goal - top corner.

FUTSAL REVELUTION IN SHEFFIELD

FUTSAL REVELUTION IN SHEFFIELD***
In the first initiative of its Kind in England, Manchester City and
Sheffield FC as part of a massive recruitment and Development drive have
joined forces in an effort to develop and promote the game of Futsal.
Hillsborough College in Sheffield has become home to the Clubs new
Futsal/Football Centre aimed at improving technical ability at grass
roots level;
In an initiative that will see young local grassroots teams and
community organizations being invited to 2 hour coaching session
delivered by experienced Futsal and Football coaches;
Young players will experience the game of Futsal as well as seeing how
it can help their technical game regarding the game of football;
Dave Ward, who with Dave Harrison and Trevor Todd of Manchester City set
up this development initiative told Futsal Planet 'primarily Futsal
will be promoted as a complementary player development initiative' we
believe the game is perfectly designed to enhance, enrich and compliment
the 11 a side game and is not designed to compete with football.
As Futsal becomes more popular we hope the number of participants within
football in general will grow, with more technically minded players
coming through the Professional Academies.
Futsal is widely recognised as the ideal skill building arena for the 11
a side game, as this development programme matures we hope to improve
the technical skills of grass roots players and watch the popularity of
the game of Futsal grow nationally as well as locally;
Dave added 'I have to thank Mico Martic and Javier Lozano for their
input and advice over the years in relation to this project, which has
helped influence an English Premiership Football club to put this
development strategy in place'.
Seeing the game played at the highest standard around Europe, especially
in Spain, and more importantly seeing how the game can be used as a
development tool in the game of football has also inspired us to get
this centre up and running;
The growth of Futsal in England has been a lot slower than the rest of
Europe, and we have until recently failed to recognise Futsal as a vital
development tool within the game of football.
Together with The Sheffield and Hallamshire FA's Futsal programmes and
the participation of Mico Martic in delivering Futsal coaching sessions
in the area and at Manchester City’s Academy, these developments have
helped put Sheffield at the forefront of the increasing popularity of
Futsal;
Now, to sustain and maintain the long term ambitions for Futsal in
England the Initiation and development of quality grassroots programmes
is of paramount importance.
Not only to establish Futsal as a mainstream sport but to clarify the
games importance as a development tool regarding the 11 a side game.
We also believe it is important to the games progress to create and
sustain a youth Futsal league, sooner rather than later.
In addition Implementing quality Futsal programmes within schools in the
area we hope would play an integral role creating a Futsal culture and
enhancing technical ability.
The centre in Sheffield hopes that from this initiative these proposed
plans will become a reality very soon;
"As a coach, I like five – a –side because it’s easy to organise and it
develops all the qualities that are important to the modern game. It’s
fast, so it improves your vision, agility and movement and because you
touch the ball so often, your technique improves too. Today, every
player should be able to defend and attack so this game is essential for
player’s development.”

Grimsby Institute Performance of Week 13 - North Somercotes
Written by Kevin Bryant
Saturday, 10 April 2010
In a limited week of futsal due to the backlog of 11 v11 matches being cleared and 2 major UEFA games on television, and Monday being Easter Bank Holiday, games played was decimated.
From the limed number of games North Somercotes took the eye. Their comprehensive beating of Market Hotel looks to have given them the Kent Street Thursday League title. Inbetweeners could nick it, but they would need a cricket score to manage it.
Referee DH reported a fine performance from Madrid Futsal in the Tuesday League. Down 5-1 to the experienced Trawl they fought back to 6-6 only to lose 7-6.
Grimsby Soccer Club lost out to East Marsh, but by a tighter margin than anticipated, a positive from defeat.
Grimsby Institute team of the week: North Somercotes.
