Just one game and from the calls I have had, a game that ended in confusion.
Until I get the referees score and report was the last kick a gaol or not? The ball was in the net , but when did the whistle blow?
The end result? Referee Dean Gladwell reviewed FIFA's recent rule changes and accepted that 'the goal' was legitimate. Catalonia accepted the Youngs' had scored a legitimate goal and that it should stand.
The sportsmanship in reaching this conclusion is to be commended.
What caused all the fuss? Catalonia had equalised with seconds on the clock, Youngs' took the kick off and attacked, under the old rules the whistle would have blown when time was up. Under the new rule the attacking phase of play has to finish. If the ball hits the cross bar and then finishes up in the back of the net, the game finished when the ball hit the cross bar. The ball hits the GK and rebounds off another player into the goal, no goal, the game finished when the ball hit the GK. The ball flies into the net without touching anyone, its a gaol, and this is what Danny O'Hare had done.
A rule designed to create goals, but fraught with controversy for the referee who has to disallow that follow up shot off the cross bar.

El Dogoes take title with comprehensive win over Madrid.
Trawl finish 3rd with win over Clee Wanders. Positive for Clee Wanderers the -6 goal difference in game meant Potential finished bottom.
Franklin College won first game of League XVII beating a strong StreetSoccer 7-2.
The Tuesday League is reaching new standards, the winners of League XVII is anyone from 6 teams.
|
BBS stay top with Newton Heath breathing down their neck. Newton conceded 6 points when team had player difficulties, now back under Dan rodger control the prospect of getting a third star against team name is a possibility. Newton are 6 points behind BBS with a game in hand and BBS to play. At going to press both teams have exactly the same goal difference. Both teams won this week.
Trawl and Blaine won the other two games by one goal margins.

Where to start, first game was GSC Tigers (3rd and paced and waiting for slip ups) vs.
GSC Elite (neck and neck with East Coast Lions A at top). 6-6 Next game on was East Coast Lions A vs. New Waltham (mid table). New Waltham 7- ECL 2. A result no one saw coming. Little Devils then beat ECL B 7-4. Where does it leave the League. If GSC Panthers win their game in hand it leaves 5 teams separated by 2 points, with Elite having played one game less. This after 14 games!
|
Have you a team that will play Humberstone Futsal?
The lads are playing some great futsal, but need fresh opposition.
|
Inbetweeners implode and fail for the second week to get a team out. Cost to them in fines and fees will be substantial. Everglaze are Champions without playing a final show down game against Inbetweeners. Disappointing that we was deprived of a 'winner takes all game.'
The new Thursday League starts next week, East Marsh inter is taking Inbetweeners league place, other new teams are welcome.
|
|
New Waltham under 11's for a resounding win against top placed East Coast Lions.

Feed back wanted? Suggestions have been offered that the Monday Premier League and the Tuesday League should merge. My thoughts are that the idea is sound in principle, It would mean some Tuesday games being played on a Monday when the opposition was Valiant, Shamrock, Youngs' or Catalonia. I would suggest a league where each team plays each other once, and which at the halfway point spilt into two mini leagues. This would give the top teams some highly competitive futsal. |

|
Harvest 'football' team have had a short term injury crisis prioir to this Saturday's County Cup game vs. AFC Ropery from Gainsborough.
Can you help out, the Harvest team is predominantly futsal faces, so you will know half the players already.
The team plays futsal/football? Meaning the players love to and are encouraged to play passing football at all times.
Think you can help out, want to know more?

GFL Junior futsal training for ages 7-8, school years 2 & 3.
The children will have the advantage of learning in a heated indoors environment playing on a flat surface, using low bounce Brazilian footballs that are sensitive to touch. Far more conducive to learning than outdoors in the cold and rain on long grass with a ball that bounces away on first touch. Sports scientist would endorse our method of teaching.
Each group is limited to 12, allowing coaches quality time with individual players.
The children are being coached at a controlled pace about technique and passing, there is no rush to throw players into a club/team set up.
That hurdle will be meet when the players basic technique is so good that they can benifit from a small sided challenge.
The sessions are every Saturday 9AM at the Peakes Lane , YMCA.

Sheffield FC Futsal have appointed dutchman Michel
Liverani as their new head coach. He is the former ZVV Volendam coach in
the Dutch Premier Futsal League and will be hoping to make an immediate impact
with the FA Northern National League champions. He brings to Sheffield over 17
years of playing and coaching futsal experience and even had a stint playing in
the National League with Tranmere Victoria. Liverani said of his appointment:
"My ambition for next season will be to win the north league and be in the
finals of the futsal cup and championship playing an attractive and
confident style of futsal". Sheffield FC Futsal begin their challenge for
the FA Northern Regional League on Sunday the 21st of November against Michel's
old club Tranmere Victoria. The game will be held at Hillsborugh Leisure
Centre, 11.30am kick off, anyone interested in tickets should email

Sheffield FC Futsal players Ben Mortock, Curtis Holmes and
Ollie O'Neill were involved for England against Macedonia last week, in a
friendly double header. Unfortunately, England were beaten 5-1 and 4-0 against
an international team ranked 30 places above England.

NB:
Michel assisted FC Grimsby at this years FA Futsal Cup Finals. Michel was greatly respected by the players for his knowledge of futsal.

Several people have been asking me 'if we win the GFL Junior League will the team qualify for the FA National Futsal Finals held annually in Sheffield?'
|
|
 |
The answer is no. The LFA has documentation detailing the 2011 qualifying procedure; in short the LFA is charged with organising, by themselves or with partners, a qualifying procedure that ends with a LFA County Futsal Champion for various age groups. I have asked Linzi Hewitt at the LFA that Grimsby is kept at the forefront of this procedure.
Being County Champion will still not be enough! The LFA and four other County FA's have to meet for a 'play off tournament.' One team will represent all five County FA's. The same procedure will be played out across the country.
The Finals will be very high standard, only the very best teams will have got through such an arduous qualify procedure.
I have a copy of the qualifying procedure if anyone is interested to read it.

Gavin Sartain's Macadonian adventure |

The trip went very well for me, worked with two FIFA officials and two national league referees over the two games. refereed both games. (1st and 2nd referee).
England however where beaten convincingly, 4-0 and 5-1. Its seems they struggle to cope past 15 mins and then the macedonians kept going up a gear.
Hopefully they can learn from the games and improve for when they play in Novemeber against Andora.
The National league starts 3rd sunday in Novemeber so hopefully they england players will be playing regular in run up to Januarys Euro qualifiers.
The photos are of the venues we played at. The second venue with the worn floor, Kumanovo arean, Normally holds 3000 people when Champions league games and national league. We had 1500 plus a police escort from the hotel, It was an experience.

Matt Payne snapped up by Leeds & Gavin Sartain off to Macadonia. |

FC Grimsby is delighted that Matthew Payne has signed to play for Leeds in the FA National League North. A great move for Matt who was courted by both Sheffield FC and Middlesbrough futsal teams.
Leeds Brazilian coach will inspire Matt with new tactics and ideas that hopefully will find there way back into the Grimsby Futsal League.
I am sure Matt will be back on the gaol trail and if Leeds can add steel to his defensive attributes England selectors will have to take notice.
FC Grimsby are 100% supportive of his move; its just a pity that due to lack of local facilities Grimsby has taken a year out of top flight futsal.
I am sure we will get a Matt Payne column on life in Leeds.

GFL referee has been included to travel as a match referee with the England Futsal team when they travel to Macadonia next week.
A great honour for Gavin and the GFL.

Shamrock pick up first points of new league against Newton Heath who are closing gap on top three group. After strong start Dean Gladwell will be disappointed that his improving team was not closer than 5 goals to Valiant.
GY Institute forgot they had a match and conceded three easy points to Youngs'.
|
Franklin continue to rack up big scores when they have full squad out, I suspect plans are being laid for a championship assault on next league.
El Dogo's win over Trawl takes Championship down to Madrid vs. El Dogo's clash, barring any late dramatic slip ups.
|
BBS win opens 3 point gap at top, chasing Newtons' have game in hand, after these two a separate lead is opening up as 3rd and 4th continue to slip up. |

Another top night of futsal. Grimsby Soccer Club Panthers and Tigers picked up three points each to keep pressure on the top two teams. Tigers are now undefeated in 9.
Discoveries Panthers won a 5 goal thriller vs. West Marsh taking them 2 points above Marsh in league.
New Waltham put themselves in trouble to many times with poor distribution from the GK to his outfield. Not necessarily the GK's fault, unlike 11v11 he has 4 seconds to make a decision. That means his four outfield players have 4 seconds to get into open space to receive the ball. A tuff call but it has to be done otherwise the GK has a ball to nothing situation. In open play N Waltham was good, it was this one area that allowed GSC Panthers to run out 5-1 winners. It has to be conceded that N Waltham was the last team to join the league and have made progress every game.
This season has been twist after twist, East Coast A vs. East Coast B was nearly the best of all. Stu Orr found two new players to complement his 'B' team, a situation that nearly back fired. ECA second in league, had previously been top dog's in this inter club encounter, not so for 75% of this game. 5-5 with 5 minutes to play could have left Stu with mud on his face; as it was a late rally took them comfortably over the line and 2 points ahead of GSC Elite at top, with the added bonus of a better goal difference.
|
Keelby helped league out by playing back to back games, result a victory over Novartis and defeat to second placed Healing. One point separates Healing and Discoveries Titans with the teams to play each other.
Newcomers Humberstone played GSC in a friendly, a great game that Humberstone snatched in the second half after becoming more tactically aware. 7-6.
New teams are needed to compliment those already playing. New league will be aged Under 14.

Bizarre happenings, Inbetweeners are 3 points and a game in hand behind Everglaze, Inbetweeners goal difference is +100 on Everglaze!
Both have East Marsh to play and a 'trip up game' each.
Who holds their nerve wins league.

East Coast Lions 'B' team goal keeper, for his outfield performance vs. East Coast Lions 'A,' super performance in an outstanding team performance.

Shamrock 4 Grimsby Institute 8
Shamrock miss two weeks and come back a different team, same players, but not the form Bushell would want of his team.
Youngs' Seafoods' 8 Newton Heath 4
Youngs' ran up a big lead that Newton's started to close in the second half once they started pressing Young's in there own half.
Two weeks, Valiant vs. Galacticos (Leisure League Champions)
|
Trawl picked up 6 points on the night as they beat Biffa, who stood in for StreetSoccer who disappointingly had to withdraw through transport problems late in the day. Thus conceding points and incurring match fee.
El Dogoes and Franklin College recorded big wins, Barca and Clee Wanderers losing out.
NB: A yellow card was given out in Biffa vs. Trawl game; this has been updated by League to a 'red.'
|
Don't be named first on Wednesday League fixtures. All four first named teams scored 2 and lost!
Leaders BBS Couriers and Newton Heath both won, third and fourth (GRS vs. Yarra) went to third placed GRS.
Scartholonia had an overdue win against AFC Trawl, putting 3 of the bottom four on 9 points.

Discoveries Rangers picked up three points against New Waltham who was let down by a player not turning up. Rangers did what they had to do and beat what was in front of them. The bottom six teams have won either two or three games each, its that close.
Grimsby Soccer Club Elite, the players choose the name, and East Coast 'A' both won to keep it neck and neck at the top.
Both GSC Panthers and GSC Tigers are waiting for any slip ups. Tigers beat Little Devils 4-2. Chris Francis must have split his teams well as they are so closely placed (4th & 5th).
|
Tigers had a chance to maul Discovery Tartans, who started a man down, but they hardly put a scratch on them. Tartans with 'their man' ran out 5-1 winners.
Novartis vs. Grimsby Soccer Club was interesting in that both teams are at the bottom end of the table and yet they produced some great skills. Jake and Aussie linking up to score one goal that was pure 'Brazil.
GSC 4 without defeat!
|
Second placed Everglaze taken close to losing three points by Pilgrims. 4-3
Fulstow to experienced for Grimsby Soccer Club. 16-5
East Marsh help out by playing back to back games. Pick up 6 points off Barca and Bench Warmers. BW holding them to a creditable two goal deficit.

Junior teams NB:
Barnsley FC are keen to promote futsal, they would welcome our junior teams to play them. I am assured they have a fantastic facility. I have asked them for a best time to visit.

Credit to both teams and senior match referee Dean Gladwell for yet another brilliant Monday night match.
Both teams had an obvious respect for each other, each aware the damage one careless defensive lapse could reap. For me futsal is at its best when teams are so evenly matched that they are fighting over crumbs.
Valiant went into the game on the back of two unprecedented losses, Fulstow was playing their last Monday night game after years of unstinting support.
A feature of Monday night futsal is the standard of the keepers, this game was no exception. On the rare occasions defences was breached Liam Higton or Ryan Milson was on hand to stop the unstoppable.
It took 18 minutes for the first goal to arrive, Dale Jenkins getting in a defensive tackle high up the pitch and releasing Tom Hunter to score, 1-0 Valiant.
The second half Fulstow asked all the questions, pressing but unable to find the killer touch. Using Liam Higton (GK) in their opponents half they had an extra outfield player numerically, but a near impossible situation to defend if the ball was lost. Down 1-0 and with the clock running down using Liam this way was a needs must situation.
With four minutes left the gamble backfired, Valiant won the ball, a simple pass to Emson and he had an unobstructed run to goal. 2-0 effectively game over.
Two equal sides, Valiant won the tactical battle.
