(9) Performance of week:
Written by Kevin Bryant
Thursday, 04 March 2010

landscape_gifhe_college_logo_new_improved_25.jpgI refereed with Dean Gladwell crucial Premier League  title decider between Fulstow Rovers and Shamrock Rovers.  Again Shamrock had bare squad which included for the first time Paul Goodhand.

5-1 Fulstow at the break, I did not give Sham' a chance, a big mistake as they clawed back to 5-5.  When Goodhand slipped with 60 seconds left, Fulstow faced a 3 v 1 and the GK situation which they expolited to score (6-5).  Superlatives to all involved, drama, skill, technique, this game had it for 40 minutes.

In the junior under 10 league Discoveries had their backs to the wall against champions elect Breakaways,  against the odds they scored the goal of the night.  From GK to a simple tap in every Discoveries player had a 1-2 touch pass involvement. Brilliant.

N Waltham 2 Little Devils 1 wasn't bad either; 2 teams that know each other played 'real futsal' in a match both wanted desperately to win.

Pushing the Fulstow v Shamrock (match of the week, without doubt), and Discoveries superb passing move (move of the week), was BBS keeper Grant who achieved the futsal equivalent of a hole in 1 (a direct shot from keeper into his opposite numbers goal), not once but twice (individual performance of week).

After much deliberation the award goes Shamrock Rovers for the sheer guts of their recovery vs. Fulstow.

Week 8 Grimsby Institute Performance of Week:

landscape_gifhe_college_logo_new_improved_25.jpg

Clear performance of the week was Fulstow Rovers 8 Willows Valiant 3.  Fulstow played the best futsal I have seen them play, and that says a lot as I have seen them play many high standard matches. The value of their performance can be measured against the level of the opposition; Valiant had players the equal of the Fulstow team, the difference was the 'tactical knowlege' of Fulstow to play 'futsal.'  Fulstow included 3 players with experience of playing futsal at a national level within the FA League North.

Both teams was brilliantly refereed by international futsal referee, Gavin Sartain, as a result this weeks award is a 'game of the week' award to recognise the contribution of both teams and the main official.

Shamrock must be included a mention after a 11-3 demolition of El Dogos.  All 11 goals was brilliantly constructed, proper futsal goals, taps at the post after clever precis build up play.

Grimsby Institiute Performance of week (7)
Written by Kevin Bryant
Wednesday, 24 February 2010

landscape_gifhe_college_logo_new_improved.jpgThe temptation was to go for another Premier League performance, Harvest/BBS being the standout performance beating Valiant 4-3.  On review Valiant's recent results have not matched the teams performances. 3 losses and a draw since last win.

Market Hotel gaining a long awaited win against Bench Warmers deserves mention.

Surprisingly the award goes to 2 teams playing a friendly game, Discoveries Jets and West Marsh under 10's.  the 2 teams have played each other several times to gain futsal experience, their improvement has been recognisable to anyone watching.  The last game finished 2-2 and was a credit to both teams, hence team of the week is a joint West Marsh/Discoveries Jets award.

The FA Futsal Cup Structure 2010
Written by Kevin Bryant

The FA Futsal Cup Structure

The FA initially advertises for Local Qualifying Leagues across the country.  Each Local League should look to recruit a minimum of six teams.  For 2010 these Local Leagues need to have been completed by the 28th June.

The winners of each Local Qualifying Leagues progress on to the Regional Finals in July 2010, at which point they are joined by clubs from the FA National Futsal Leagues (the top English Futsal leagues).  The winners of each Regional Final progress on to the National Finals in September 2010.

What is a Local Qualifying League?

A Local Qualifying League may already be a Futsal League that is running in a local area that wishes to put forward the winning team into the FA Futsal Cup.  More commonly, the Local Qualifying Leagues are set up with the sole purpose of supporting the FA Futsal Cup.  Either is fine, but the leagues need to run over a period of time with teams competing against each other for the right to progress to the Regional Futsal Finals

The Grimsby Futsal League has nominated the the winners of GFL XV will represent Grimsby at the 'regional finals'

The GFL has requested that the winners of the proposed YMCA league will represent Cleethorpes at the 'regional finals.'

The GFL will be discussing with the LFA the possibility of nominating a ladies team.
