In the first initiative of its Kind in England, Manchester City and
Sheffield FC as part of a massive recruitment and Development drive have
joined forces in an effort to develop and promote the game of Futsal.
Hillsborough College in Sheffield has become home to the Clubs new
Futsal/Football Centre aimed at improving technical ability at grass
roots level;
In an initiative that will see young local grassroots teams and
community organizations being invited to 2 hour coaching session
delivered by experienced Futsal and Football coaches;
Young players will experience the game of Futsal as well as seeing how
it can help their technical game regarding the game of football;
Dave Ward, who with Dave Harrison and Trevor Todd of Manchester City set
up this development initiative told Futsal Planet 'primarily Futsal
will be promoted as a complementary player development initiative' we
believe the game is perfectly designed to enhance, enrich and compliment
the 11 a side game and is not designed to compete with football.
As Futsal becomes more popular we hope the number of participants within
football in general will grow, with more technically minded players
coming through the Professional Academies.
Futsal is widely recognised as the ideal skill building arena for the 11
a side game, as this development programme matures we hope to improve
the technical skills of grass roots players and watch the popularity of
the game of Futsal grow nationally as well as locally;
Dave added 'I have to thank Mico Martic and Javier Lozano for their
input and advice over the years in relation to this project, which has
helped influence an English Premiership Football club to put this
development strategy in place'.
Seeing the game played at the highest standard around Europe, especially
in Spain, and more importantly seeing how the game can be used as a
development tool in the game of football has also inspired us to get
this centre up and running;
The growth of Futsal in England has been a lot slower than the rest of
Europe, and we have until recently failed to recognise Futsal as a vital
development tool within the game of football.
Together with The Sheffield and Hallamshire FA's Futsal programmes and
the participation of Mico Martic in delivering Futsal coaching sessions
in the area and at Manchester City’s Academy, these developments have
helped put Sheffield at the forefront of the increasing popularity of
Futsal;
Now, to sustain and maintain the long term ambitions for Futsal in
England the Initiation and development of quality grassroots programmes
is of paramount importance.
Not only to establish Futsal as a mainstream sport but to clarify the
games importance as a development tool regarding the 11 a side game.
We also believe it is important to the games progress to create and
sustain a youth Futsal league, sooner rather than later.
In addition Implementing quality Futsal programmes within schools in the
area we hope would play an integral role creating a Futsal culture and
enhancing technical ability.
The centre in Sheffield hopes that from this initiative these proposed
plans will become a reality very soon;
"As a coach, I like five – a –side because it’s easy to organise and it
develops all the qualities that are important to the modern game. It’s
fast, so it improves your vision, agility and movement and because you
touch the ball so often, your technique improves too. Today, every
player should be able to defend and attack so this game is essential for
player’s development.”

Grimsby Institute Performance of Week 13 - North Somercotes
Written by Kevin Bryant
Saturday, 10 April 2010
In a limited week of futsal due to the backlog of 11 v11 matches being cleared and 2 major UEFA games on television, and Monday being Easter Bank Holiday, games played was decimated.
From the limed number of games North Somercotes took the eye. Their comprehensive beating of Market Hotel looks to have given them the Kent Street Thursday League title. Inbetweeners could nick it, but they would need a cricket score to manage it.
Referee DH reported a fine performance from Madrid Futsal in the Tuesday League. Down 5-1 to the experienced Trawl they fought back to 6-6 only to lose 7-6.
Grimsby Soccer Club lost out to East Marsh, but by a tighter margin than anticipated, a positive from defeat.

Gradely
Sports 'Red' League title.
The lads split into 2 teams in the Grimsby Institute Junior Futsal League, playing as
New Waltham and Little Devils.
2009 they had a great season, travelling to Blackpool to win that
prestigious tournament, and playing Manchester City at their Eastlands
Academy, the lads must have done well as they are invited back.
This week they are at a Yarmouth tournament.
The lads train 90% futsal.

The Thursday league winners is going to be decided this Thursday either by North Somercoates Academy or the Inbetweeners. It is all going to go down by goal difference with both teams having to play Market Hotel as there only game left. with North Somercoates on 20 goals more than the Inbetweeners it looks like there going to take the title.
The 3rd place is going to be take by either East Marsh or Everglaze with both on same points but Everglaze have a better goal difference but have got Barca left to play who put up a good fight against second place Inbetweeners while East Marsh have Grimsby Soccer Club who have won 4 all season.
5th place is more than guranteed for Barca with Grimsby Soccer Club could go down a place with Market Hotel have 5 games in hand over them with Market Hotel winning 3 so it more than guranteed they will take over them if they win atleast 2 out of there 5 games. Bench Warmers have defiantly finished bottom once again Chiefs second to bottom in there first full season of futsal.

Week 13 Grimsby Institute Performance of Week:Willows Valiant
Written by Kevin Bryant
Friday, 02 April 2010
Willows Valiant destroys Fulstow Rovers 12-1.
Where to start? In
mitigation Fulstow new manager ‘Hezza,’ they rotate manager each season, did
not have his strongest team out, what he did have was a highly competitive group
of experienced futsal players that would not have contemplated they could lose
to any team 12-1.
With the BBS team not entering league XVI Valiant signed BBS
and FC Grimsby star player Danny Durrosimo. Valiant’s play went to a new level,
whether it was solely down to Danny ‘D’ or collectively the players rose to a
new level, one can’t be sure, but to a new level they went.
Fulstow was not bad, Valiant was brilliant. Normally free
scoring Fulstow players Danny Hornigold and Mathew Payne can open the tightest
of defence doors, as they have proved at national level, but in this game not
only had Valiant locked the door Danny Powers had thrown away the key. Every facet of defence was there, patience,
organisation, timing, communication, it was a master class. On the rare occasions Fulstow scratched a
chance keeper Ryan Milson was making top draw saves.
In attack Valiant was equally impressive, an early 3-0 lead
could have dried some appetites for goals, as it was a steady stream
followed. When in possession Valiant recognised
immediately 3v2 2v1 opportunities and exploited them to the full. Most of Valiant’s goals were simple tap ins,
having drawn the keeper to the near post a player was always on hand to finish
at the back post. Sounds simple, it
takes quality players to make it look simple time and time again.
Scorers were Dale Mason 4, Nathan Emson 4, Danny Durrosimo
3, and Tom Hunter 1.
The return game will be some game, Fulstow will have to win
it, and they have the players to make it a classic. Fulstow was magnanimous in defeat,
appreciative that Valiant had completely stopped them as an attacking force.
How do Valiant compare to the now defunct Magpies? On this performance Valiant vs. Magpies would
be too close to call. Magpies had amazing resilience, 44 Premier games without
defeat, to compare Valiant need that level of consistency.
An individaul performance of special mention was Youngs'/FCGY Mathew Horner in his teams match vs. Newton Heath.
Fulstow have been a model team for the GFL for many seasons, so its doubly pleasing seeing their futsal talent is rewarded with the team name engraved on the winners shield. Fulstow have played cummulatively more games than any other GFL team, I would love to be able to calculate the teams win/lose ratio; it has to be very high in their favour.
As the form guide shows a strong last 5 games was the key to Fulstow winning
title, the league went to the last game, a credit to all
concerned. Youngs' quietely went about their business to to finish 3rd,
level on points with Willows Valiant. Valiant at one stage had the the
'league to lose,' which they did with only 1 win in their last 5 games! 4th
placed Shamrock with a bigger squad
might well have been higher placed.
Grimsby Institute only played 7
games as they entered league late, they played all teams once.
